Lunch time mooring

Guys

Heading to the Solent for the weekend, and I'm looking for somewhere to moor up for lunch (1-2 hours max), maybe Mudeford, or Portsmouth, or somewhere else (recommendations!)
Is there a resource on the net that shows when short term mornings are, or who has them?

Thanks

Adam

I'm not aware of a single source of info, but as a starting point most marina's will have details online; a short stay is usually up to 4hrs. Here's a couple of examples:

Hamble Point - £9 up to 15m - Ketch Rigger serves very good food

http://www.mdlmarinas.co.uk/sites/de...ariff_2017.pdf

Cowes Yacht Haven - £1.06/m

Berthing

That's just a couple of options, you have LOADS of choice in the Solent

Yarmouth definitely does short stays, quite probably Lymington and most of the other Solent harbours as well. If you're coming over towards Poole, Poole Quay Boat Haven also does short stays, as does Weymouth.

Assuming you're looking for somewhere to walk ashore and go for lunch, and not just a mooring/berth to sit in and eat a picnic or similar?

You can moor at:
- Gun Wharf Keys, Portsmouth
- Sparkes Marina, Hayling Island nr Portsmouth
- Hayling Island Sailing Club next to Sparkes Marina.

There's Yarmouth - c. £6.00 for walk ashore..and the Wheatsheaf's nearby.

If not looking to go ashore, just drop the anchor somewhere, or tie up to an occupied buoy.

Yep, go ashore for some lunch.

I will look at some of the above, I know of sparks, they have a restaurant there from memory, (did my PB2 there)

Thanks

Lymington Town Quay is good for mooring, about £6 for 2 hours from memory. Although when we stopped there for dinner last week, the harbour master appeared as we were leaving. I explained we had been there a few hours and how much did he want, he just waved us off without needing to pay.

No restaurant at Sparkes anymore. They were part of Piranha Ribs, who went belly up end of last season.

The Jolly sailor pub at the top of the River Hamble, free mooring but avoid 1-2 hours either side of low water. Town Key in Cowes is always good £1.00 per m walk ashore. The rising Sun Pub at the mouth of the Hamble, free mooring and walk ashore.

If you are in Portsmouth try the light ship in Haslar marina, easy mooring, good food and a fantastic view from the upper deck. They do charge for mooring but I have never paid as there is no one there to collect. Old Portsmouth on the other side of the harbour is also worth a try.

Never paid at Lymington, always had word with the floating bobby, and he/she directed me to just tie up.

The Beach House bar/cafe/restaurant on the
spit at Mudeford is excellent. Enter the harbour and we normally go to the western side of the little pier for the ferry and drop our enchor and wade ashore - not too close if the tide is dropping!

The Hut in Colwell Bay (West of Yarmouth). Look at their website first but you anchor and they boat out to take you ashore. Great experience. If it's a picnic at anchor then Alum Bay is pretty sheltered unless wind is from west.

Thanks for all the reply's guys, had chips on the boat at Cowes in the end, was a pretty wet crossing with a gusting westerly, so stay in Cowes harbour, cruised up to Newport and back, yesterday was a little calmer on the water.
