Mail order outboards

Hi

Does anyone have any experience with mail order outboards from any of the following companies?

Challenger Marine in Penryn?

SAL Marine ltd in Lymington,

Pacer Marine as advertised on ebay?

Any problems with last year models turning up, bits missing, damaged packaging etc.
Currently looking to buy a new 70 Yamaha or 75 Honda.

Any advice is appreciated

Hector

Any reason you're going for mail order or is it simply price? A main dealer will complete pre-delivery inspection, add oil, etc, (they're shipped minus sump oil). Local Yamaha dealers north of the border include Yam Power (Glasgow), Mackay Marine (Aberdeen), Caley Marine (Inverness), etc. For Honda - Clyde Outboard Services, Gaelforce Marine (Inverness), and Ardoran Marine (Oban).

Support your local dealer - whichever model you choose!

Hi Spartacus

Just doing my homework at the moment and I must admit it would be nice to support my local dealer but we are talking considerable differences in price here ie thousands off list price.

Most new outboards are price on application (POA) from main dealers and there's usually plenty room for negotiation. The Yamaha F70 looks a great engine. PM CoachRib (Sweden) who has the same engine on a XS 530 for feedback on performance. Link here: http://www.rib.net/forum/f37/boat-li...s-45076-3.html

PACER Marine are good , no problems ever experienced and very helpful if you call them, google them and then they have a main business and sell by Ebay as well

I bought an outboard engine from Pacer Marine through their eBay shop. It was delivered promptly, and at a good price.

Another vote for Pacer Marine, they're fairly local to me so I pop in there a fair bit, engineers are always happy to help out on the phone even when it's not an engine that they've sold or serviced.
