Managed to get an auxiliary on my SR4...

Finally managed to find a couple of auxiliary motors that will actually fit on an sr4 transom alongside the main one-and not foul the steering.

4hp evinrude and 2hp evinrude-old types.

and

I'm going to have to shave a bit off the clamp sides on the 4hp to get it to fit and I don't think the later one with neutral will fit as it's slightly bigger .
The 2hp fits straight on and only has one screw clamp rather than 2 so is nice and narrow. They don't even foul when tilted...

Matt,

Do you think a 2 HP motor will push that boat around at sea.

Let me know if it does.

Regards Nick R.

SHOULD do- I had a 3hp seagull as the auxiliary on this 5m hardboat:-

which weighed nearly 750kg with all the gear in the cabin and it pushed it along well enough to get me out of trouble. 4hp should almost be overkill- I had a 4hp auxiliary on a 14' dory with a cabin and it made nearly 4 knots. They aren't the most slippery shape at displacement speeds either.
At least with 2hp it'll maintain steerage way-and if it takes 3 hours to get 3 miles to shore then at least I'm ashore...and SR4's aren't exactly heavy.

I'll try both and let you know.

I used to have a 2hp aux on my 5.5 BWM, one day I decided to see what would happen when I used it........Nothing. I got rid of both the Aux and aging Yam and bought a newish Merc.
