Manic Rib on eBay
Quote:
This vessel is not for the faint-hearted. It will reach speeds above 100mph and has excellent seafaring characteristics.

This vessel is fitted with a speedo that over-reads by ohh, I'd say at least 30mph

Rather suspicious that the seller has not included the boat make or length!

More likely to be the owner's ID...
Any prospective bidder would be well advised to check out the owner's ID with BHG. Louise has noticed that the close-up picture of the console has bucket type race seats - does that match the picture taken outdoors?

Nah, I think the console pic shows the back of 'shaped' jockey seats rather than bucket seats. So it looks like the same boat. BWM Rapier 28 supposed to be a good hull. Only concern would be the somewhat checkered history of BWM and who actually built it and to what quality. Wouldn't personally want to run twin promax engines even over here in the land of cheap(er) petrol!

Looks like a great baot though - could be a good bargain for someone - would have gone for it myself if not already committed - running costs will be OUCH though!!!

==========
Response to your question for eBay item #4554938908 - RIB Power Boat with twin Mercury ProMax 225 and trailer
"What make is the speedo?"
Hi there, the speed is measured on the Garmin GPS system fitted to the boat. Regards, Simon.
==========
Looks like another Garmin due to go back to Romsey then!

Paul Lenner at a guess- he built mine ( Rapier).. great hull based (taken from)
the cougar???-- just a little problem with the tubes.....
Louise/Richard- I believe your Scorpion is based on the same??

Wrong!
That was quick, girl.
The hull on my rapier is excellent and now going on for some 10 years. When
I was refitting - lifted up the transom by 2 meters just using the hooks at the back. Its been though a hell of bashing and there are no cracks anywhere.BUT the rest was dissapointing. Just now -re-engine with 2 *250 HPDI yams - give you a race anyday.. in fact give you 1 km start from Dover to Calais-- just name the day
Jonathan

South Coast RIBS (who build Scorpions) did have some involvment with BWM in the late 90's.
I beleive they started life fitting tubes, consoles etc. to BWM hulls... but I don't know if any hull charasteristics were transfered - Louise what do you know?

AFAIK that's right (but maybe early 90s rather than late). But the Scorpion hull was a new design by naval architect David Marsh.

Are all the scorpion hulls based on the same essential design then (EG 8m / 8.5m etc is a lengthened 7.5, where as the 6.5 is a shortened version???) I imagine the large 9m / 10m cabin versions are somewhat different?
