Be nice to see Barry Carson have some success at last. A decent bloke with some good ideas, who seems to have been unlucky over the years. Hopefully his new partners will play the game.

Carson RIBs' new collaboration with CTruk & Alnmaritec

I've only just seen this thread. Thanks Pikey Dave for your kind comments Many thanks also to all others who sent their congrats and kind support during and since my win in the High Court case against Probond Marine/Colin MacAndrew (now at the Ultimate Boat Co. with his associate Shane Mugan). Probond has ceased trading with substantial debts. The damages/costs awarded to me are unpaid. However, I'm now pleased to report that Carson RIBs have moved on and again going in a very positive direction in collaboration with CTruk & Alnmaritec. Lots happening! I've just posted an update and press release in the Trade Announcements section and RIBs for sale here on Ribnet. There's more info on our Facebook pages, www.carson-marine.co.uk and https://ctruk.com/new-rib-workboat/

@Barry - I reckon the specs in the article might be a bit off. The range vs speed is a straight line as quoted, which it wouldn't be.

Nice and efficient @ 5 knots, then efficiency reduces until it gets nicely on the plane - maybe 12 knots? And then it should be a curve from then on. And power increases with the square of speed once up on the plane (unless you have some magic dust in the boat)

Why am I mentioning this? Range will be a big deal for anyone interested and I suspect there might be a "supercruise" speed where it's up on the plane but still returns range almost as good as it does at 5 knots?

Range v speed

Hi Matt, I think you're referring to the second Maritime Journal article mentioned above re the Pulse 58 electric RIB. This is not a Carson RIB! It's a totally separate entity and nothing to do with us. At present we don't have an electric powered RIB although we are looking at the options. However, while on the subject of range v speed, I can tell you that my larger designs can carry sufficient fuel load to achieve ranges approaching 2,000nm at cruising speeds (mid 20s) and have a dash capability of well over 50kts light (30-40 at max load). My multi stepped Interceptor designs can manage 70kts/130kph light load and with long range tanks potentially over 1,700nm. If you can afford to fuel it!!

Oh, my apologies, I thought those articles were all about your boats.

No worries. I have to agree they do look like they're connected. Unfortunately electric in its present form won't get our kind of RIBs very far!

No worries. I agree - anything requiring a high duty cycle, decent range and no possibility of energy recovery; aeroplanes and boats primarily, are still some way off.

Some interesting stuff happening on augmenting ships with Rotor sails though - but not much use on a RIB.

A sailing RIB? Now there's a thought . . . . . But on a more serious note, hybrids may be an option. Electric around marinas and at trolling speeds and diesel/petrol or even hydrogen main power for when you need to go . . . . . . However, either way, batteries are heavy, take up space, reduce payload and reduce overall performance, so there's a bit more development still needed.
