max HP on Valiant V490 '97

can somebody tell me what's the max HP on a Valiant V490 '97? The license plate at the back of the boat tells me 60 HP, but on different websites they mention 80HP. I already mailed to HQ of Valiant but without a result. Anyone experience with this item?

Valiant currently market the 490 as being reccomended with a 60HP but capable of an 80HP. If the plate on the transom says max 60HP though, then probably shouldn't go over that... ...could cause insurance problems. Its possible that they have beefed up the transom since yours was built.

Somebody asked this a while back, it's 80hp but from my personal experience even 75hp is overpowered. 60hp is probably ideal. See thread below:

You asked the question didn't you??

I've got a 490 with a Yamaha 4-stroke 60hp and I'm happy. Good power, good handling and not at all skittish. Max speed (according to the GPS) is 30 mph. Noticeably faster driven solo than with 4 or 5 onboard. If anything, could take more power: The limiting factor would be trimming the boat to counter the extra weight aft.

Barfly and Jieboy, what kind of range do you guys have? I've got a 23 litre tank under the double jockey seat which I reckon gives me 40 - 50 miles, but I've been looking at putting in a bigger tank. I've found a 65 litre one online that's 660mm long, 300 wide and 440 high that I reckon would just about squeeze in. Any opinions?

Look forward reading your report.

I am to be in Liege whole next week, believe it is rather cold down there at the moment ?
