Menai Bridge Slipway Closure?

I have been told by an Anglesey Islander that there are rumours about the slipway at Menai Bridge being closed by the local council.

There is said to have been an article in the North Wales Weekly News about it.
Does anyone have the details whether this is or is not true?

We should be keeping a close eye on this sort of thing and resist any such closures which would limit our access, no matter where it is.

I agree

well spotted John, I'll have a look at my end (Abersoch) to see if I can gleam any such info. Jono will no doubt be a good source of info ! Hey Jono - what's the score.

Once we can establish something concrete (no pun intended) I'll write to the relevant authorities.

I'm sure others would also (Phil Davies - no crayons allowed).

The Story

I have purchased the slipway and all surounding land to build my new school........ Not...

On a serious note there is a big development planned for the slip, quay and surrounding area. This is still at the planning stage.

The other problem at the minute is the Yocalls, they don't like people stopping at the top of the slipway and blocking the road. I kindly sugested to the yocalls that the sip was there before they purchased their houses. The coppers normally turn up about 5 mins after i do normally and then drive around every hour or so checking for people parked on double yellows. Not a bad thing though as it keeps the Tea Leafs away.

But the real problem is they just don't like people - particularly ones with big 4-wheel drives, shiny boats and English accents

For The Little Man

No doubt if the redevelopment option goes ahead it will cost a pretty penny to use the slip then, if indeed it remains.

Surely if a locally provided facility such as this is taken away and sold for profit to some developer then some of the proceeds should go towards providing a similar or even better facility for the public to use.

There just isn't enough of any type of public and free to use facilities to use in this country. Isn't it about time we started querying that after we have paid all our numerous taxes we should at least get something useful for them.

That reminds me of an old saying, "Pay your taxes in one hand and wish with the other" or something like that. (Ancient Irish proverb, I believe)

Best of luck with the fight.

How about everybody turning up with there RIBs. It would at least make some headlines.

Menia Slipway

Now then Phil non of your anti-Viettaff here, as most of the residents wouldn't know a leek if it landed on them. As for the slipway it is owned according to the signs by Anglesey Council. The developement is proposed on the land to the side of it, which is currently owned by the timber yard.

Also the land behind (old Welsh Water House) and the old mills further up towards the Liverpool Arms.

Ian, your posts are getting more and more obscure. What the hell do you mean Jono's got one of them?! If you're referring to bricks, you'll remember he rolled the last one on a country lane in North Wales.

We obviously need a local representative to discuss matters with the council, but they would need to be a cunning linguist to communicate.

Step forward Ribnet member, Richard Fraser-Williams, known on the forum as 'Windchill'. Richard is the director of Menter Mon in Llangefni, the small business development agency on Anglesey, which I believe is directly attached to Anglesey council. He speaks fluent Welsh and has excellent contacts in all the right places. In fact I'll drop him an email re. this thread and see if he can cast some further light on the subject.
