Mercury 15 hp 2 stroke valuation mint condition

Not for sale at the moment but just wondering what max price i could realistically get if i decided to sell it and if so where would be the best place to advertise ,

Engine history

After a lot of searching i bought it off a guy who had it from new and only used it for about 10 hrs on fresh water and while not used kept it in his house

I used it on a 3.10 Zodiac about four times at Salcombe and has always been washed through and a good spraying of WD 40 and the engine has always been run on quicksilver premium oil

The engine is stored in my spare room in the house and hasn't been used for 3 years but i have always ran it up about every 3 - 6 months

The year of the engine is 2000 and i have all the original paperwork from new and weighs 34.7 kg

This engine is showroom condition i would say totally immaculate with no scratches on the paintwork

I have a stand ,fuel tank and flush kit that has been modified so you don't have to remove the prop to flush

Just really wanted a value at this stage not offers because i would be sorry to see it go and i might get another sib one day who knows

That really does look stunning !

At this time of year trhe best place to sell it to mximise your return would be eBay. Lots of up close pictures and a video of it running, 99p start and no reserve.

Not sure what you would get, but I would estimate around 1k, might be more if 2 people really really want it.

Best way to value an engine is to compare it with what's on the market just now. 2 strokes are still sought after as a good no-nonsense engine, excellent power to weight, relatively frugal at this hp, and none of the storage issues compared to 4 strokes when being transported.

Bridger Marine has a couple (difficult to tell if standard or long shaft), priced at £2k.
John Bridger Marine

Bill Higham (expensive at the best of times)
Buy Used Outboards mariner 15hp short shaft, manual start, tiller control 15.0HP Outboard at Bill Higham Marine

Wills Marine

Only thing to bear in mind with dealer prices, is that they usually offer a minimum of 3 month warranty.

You can still buy 2-strokes new for around £2,300 (for commercial use only), so at least that gives you a ball-park figure. Yours has got to be worth £1,000 - £1,200 easily.

I've seen minters like this with a good history listed on Ebay (in the small boating main season) with lots of crisp images make £1000-£1275 with loads of bidding.

I have the same model a year newer with a Mariner cover (and same condition/history) so have followed the prices closely.

It's perhaps just me but I'd pay just as much privately as to a dealer, perhaps more, as I value the chance to discuss the history directly with the owner.

As everyone says going rate for a well looked after late 15hp 2 stroke is £1000 to £1250. You can take your chances on a 99p start eBay auction but for me the best results with something desirable and more expensive (and with minimal cost to the seller) is a classified eBay listing or a slightly too expensive BIN with best offer - then negotiate privately for a viewing/cash sale 'outside' eBay.

Re' the prop/tiller etc - always split items like this and sell seperately for the best overall result but sell the engine with the fuel tank.
