MMSI Numbers

Can anybody give me advice on how to get a MMSI number? just got my DSC Radio.Looked on ofcom website didn't really help me.

Apply for a new licence and check the box thats says you want an MMSI.

Can you UK based guys get one off the net or do you have to do an extra module on your vhf licence ?

That depends! If the boat already has a licence and has a call sign then an MMSI number can be requested in addition. If the boat has never had a ships radio licence then your statement is correct.

Each time a renewal is made then a booklet is sent with the renewed licence, in that booklet is a form which can be used to update the information held.
