'Vaguely'? How called it be more RIB related? This boat is part of Osprey history.

well have to meet up
cant wait test test the the new drive on mine
after blowing the first volvo drive
i fitted a stronger drive and lost 10 knots
i added more and more power to get it back then blow that to pieces
engines been really good for a long time now and ive done some more work to help the charge temperature whitch will allow me to run bit more boost if neccesary.
hopfully the shorter and thinner drive with the hoff type prop will reduce the drag

Offshore Components (Osprey) paid a naval designer to come up with the XR design and I think Vector built the mould tools. 18 and 20 made in Standish, 24s made by Vector. XR18 and 20 were first shown and the Scottish Boat show in Feb 92. 96 saw a change of design to the Lynx.
The Vipers, well they have an interesting history. In 1986 Fletcher made 3 ribs before deciding there was no future or money to be made building ribs, So sold the design. Mike and Ralph used the moulds to produce the commerical ribs for (Osprey) 5.4m, 6.5m and 8m Falcons. In 1992 Offshore Components asked Mike and Ralph to come up we a new design as divers wanted more space and soft nose ribs rather than the Sparrowhawk and Eagle. The First Viper a 5.25m was built in Sept 92 and the rest of the range followed that winter. If you look closely at the early Vipers you can see the change in angle were Mike raised the bow section from the Fletcher lines.
XR 24 mould now in Stanley, North Yorkshire with Reiver Boats.

Interesting, so how 'designed' was the original Viper hull? Was it quite simiular to the Fletcher speedboat hulls at the time?

So, was the Falcon derived from a Fletcher RIB 'based on' the Fletcher 17' Arrowbeau?

since we have so many vector experts in one place, were the XR24 and Vagabond the same hull with different bow sections?
Did both / all have the "unusual" step at the stern of the hull?
The soft nose Vagabond was pretty crap in a big following sea. I have a cracking photo of 6m of detached tubes and about 1m still stuck at the rear to prove it - sorry not digital!!

Pete what is the story behind the Vipermax then how did it develop from the Viper.
Is it Mike who builds the hulls now that designed the VM?

vagabond was taken from a hull mould of the 21 vulcan speedboat it had a deep planing wedge it was a quick hull but didnt like heavy swell nose was low to so it was real easy to stuff hence peeled tubes
xr has really deep v bow section flating out slightly with a low flat planing wedge which tends to hold bow slightly high seems to absoarb loads of hp to go fast but awsome in swell
just posted some pics of my xr on sight
