I think 0813 is part of the boats and outboards so called 'privacy numbers'...... the 0813 means it's from abroad.

Perhaps it's about time the B&Os started tightening up on scammed gear. Similar adverts appear to crop up quite regularly. I only tend to look at the outboard section, goodness knows what else is on there. There have been two obvious scam outboard ads in the last week.

3 of the 4 engines at the top of this page are scams.

Not that I use the site at all, but that linked advert... what was it that made it an "obvious" scam? What sort of things give it away?

Cheers,
WMM

Price, primarily. A 12mth old £12k engine for £1700 is a bit of a giveaway. American phrasiology is another. We tend to refer to an outboard as an 'engine', in the States 'Motors'.
These ads are copied and pasted from genuine ads in the US. With a bit of googling the originals can often be found.

Yep. However, don't discount ads for vx200 and vx250 Yams that look too cheap without contacting them to determine a scam first. There were some available last year for incredible deals-NOS 2002 and 2003 models that ended up at auction.

I appreciate that it must be. It does beg the question whether these people do ever find idiots daft enough to hand over cash. I suppose if you place enough ads in enough countries the odd one will come along.

You're surely not saying that this advert isn't genuine as well? I was hoping to use these for the round Britain race!
