My first rib

I finally acquired my first rib, and I've started small...a Zodiac Cadet 300 compact with Yamaha 8hp 2 stroke. Just got back from my first outing with it and had a blast. I was in it by myself, and found I had to move forward and sit roughly amidships to get on plane. Once I moved forward it went on plane in a few seconds though, Can't wait to get out again....

psst I'm pretty sure cadets are "SIB's" (soft bottom, not rigid). Lots of fun anyway!

It's actually a fiberglass hull with a folding transom, so it fits into a roughly 7' X3' X6" bag.

Cool... I just looked them up. "cadet compact rib 300". I've never seen them before! It looks just like a regular cadet in the pic.

Wow, fantastic scenery! I bet you'll have a real blast exploring round there in your little pocket rocket

Yep, whatever it is having a calm lake like that to mess around in must be wonderful. Guess your lakes are much bigger than our (UK) seas too??

Yes it was even more fun then i hoped! The photo is actually in the "Indian Arm" - A saltwater fjord in the Burrard Inlet just outside of Vancouver. Its about 20km long and almost completely undeveloped, so lots to explore and good for crabbing...

Hi

Any update on how you find you compact 300? I like the idea but think it may be a bit small for my son and I to fish from. But I was wondering if the solid floor in effect made it feel a bit bigger compared to a air floor.

Any comments would be welcomed.

They have a very shallow V hull, so plane easily but are very bumpy in a chop. Easy to store and will easily go on a car roof, but needs two people to move it around as it's almost impossible for one person to pick it up due to the size and shape.

Sounds good on paper, but outperformed all round by an Aerotec 380 which weighs the same but is much roomier and will take a bigger motor.

Thanks John

That is just the sort of useful info I need. I can hear my wife grumbeling allready if I had to ask for her help every time I want to nip out in the boat.
