My New RIB
Im planning to enter in the Round Scotland event next month and if all goes well maybe a Round Britain event too.
The boat I have had built for the event is a RIBQUEST 4.8 with a Suzuki 50. Top speed is 30-32 Knots. I have some photos for you and thought you may like to see these. Also any comments would be good re your views of the craft and also if anyone may want to take part in the event.
The guys that have taken Ribquest on, are utter business man. Really professional, and when building my boat proved very good indeed, it seems a very good little boat indeed.

I was told I could enter a Ribcraft 4.8. Pitty it clashes with Cowes week - would have been good fun.
Nice looking boat Tom

It's a rally rather than a race. The 4.8 would have classed as one of the boats taking part as opposed to a support boat.

As regards it being as good as a RC. I will have to tell you after Ive completed the event. The Ribcraft went really round on RB4 so we will see how this compares.

Tom,
What about Round Scotland then? Is it just a spin around the coast, rather than a race? If so, what's the relevance of the 4m size and larger boats being classified as support vessels?

Taken from RIBs website:
"In the twentieth year, from when in 1989 Michael Alexander and Richard Frere employed a 4m Avon Searider to be the first to circumnavigate Scotland by RIB; RIB International is to commemorate their achievment by offering all RIB lovers the opportunity of undertaking the 500 mile course in the original manner first acheived by these two adventurers. RS4 will be open to operators of all makes and types of around 4 metre RIBs, and in the spirit of the original adventure, the 500 mile course will run from Inverness to Inverness."
Very similiar to the RB4 more a challenge than a race. I may have a spare seat as my co-pilot has had something happen which means he cant come, if anyone would like to come then please let me know. I am however organising something else so you would have to be quick. Send me a PM

Just out of interest, is it a freebie from Ribquest, or are you spending your own hard earned cash on it?
John

That's not what it says on the website. See the pdf:

Extract:
".....all makes and types of 4 metre

Is a 4metre rib 4m or 4.85 ?
4.85 is not 4 but then its not 5 either
if you round up or down then >4.5 is 5 and <4.5 is 4

The whole event sounds a nonsense to me - it's open to 4m RIBs, but larger boats can attend as support vessels, but it's not a race! In which case, what is the relevance of the 4m size?
Anyone know how many entries have been submitted?

Those that want to use 4 meter craft are trying to do so to remember Micheal Alaxander who completed the event and died a few years ago. It is those that want to take up the challenge and prove what small RIBs are capable of. Approx 10 boats have entered.
As per the freebie comment. RIB International ofcourse will be doing a write up on their own event! But Hugo as my father will using the Avon Searider, supplied by BHG. The craft that was originally used.
Ribquest as a newly bought company would like to promote their new models. Also for my own personal use and research I would like to see how it fares against the Ribcraft and other good makes, that are well proven. Therefore Yes this boat has been supplied, very kindly sponsored for the event.
Just like the RB4, the RS4 is a challenge just to prove what small boats are capable of. It is not a race to feed ego, more the thrill of using a small boat in big seas, seeing some of the UKs best and most dramatic coastline. I could think of many worse things to do with my time. I think the boat so far looks very good, and look forward to taking part, in what seems a fun event.
