I think Fletchers are fairly good hulls -

If driven well and not overloaded I don't see why it wouldn't be ok in the rough.

Unfortunately many speedboats we see down here on the coast have too many people in them and poorly maintained engines which doesn't help their reputation.

To answer the ops question - it depends which model of Fletcher it is!

Your Helming experience should be Telling!.. and those Humbers are pretty slippery!...Make it a Choppy Day...and the 'Race' Point to Point and...and as far as Poss!
You can always offer 'Double or Quits' on the way Home too

The OP has a Humber , shallow mid Vee Assault. The popular notion was that it was called the Assault because it sounded very tufty and aggressive. In fact, it was called that because drivers would get out after a choppy run and say "Jeeze - I feel like I've been assaulted..."

I think it will be a fair race.

Hi all - am I just being a boring old fart here in thinking that setting up a race like this with "he has only recently bought it and is inexperienced" is maybe not the way to go......

It's got to be fun, but sort of agree...

Mrh and I recently ran very very close in our 4m avons.....it does need focused driving and trust plus a degree of experience.

Did not expect the flurry of replies on this! As for safety I will not be doing anything stupid and I will not be expecting him to, it's mainly been banter between us at work, just would be interesting to compare the two set ups at the same time, thanks for your concern anyway.

You can't let us down now Boyo, you have multi national RIB DOMINATION expectation to uphold, my suggested route would be MH to the Smalls n back. lol, joking aside, that distance would be dodgy in a flecher, where'as your RIB is far more capable for offshore cruising, so at the end of the day you can rest in the knowledge that you have a propper Boat and he doesn't, simples!!

Welcome to RIBnet BTW.

Well..... if it's a 'One Way Ticket' for the Fletcher...I'd consider that pretty Conclusive!

How about a tug of war?
I can't see you sinking even if he does manage to pull you backwards.
The money you save in fuel by not racing will pay for the beer!
Borrow a low pitch prop and you might just sink him.....

Considering most ribs today are using hard boat hulls which have had a tube stuck round them it dose seem funning how so many on here think so highly of ribs over hard boats!
Also fletcher hulls are till used to day in some highly regarded ribs

An assault is almost a SIB(sic)

There's not much V for cutting the chop.

Unless the chop is more than the fletch can handle, he'll lose.

I've found the Fletchers not bad on the choppy stuff !!
If it were two identical boats with the same cc engines but one is a two-stroke & one a four it would be game over .........
