I don't believe in superstition and have changed the name's on my last 3 boats over 10 years done a lot of sea miles in them with no real issues
I believe you make your own luck to a certain extent
If you don't like the name change it
I've also sailed in plenty of commercial ships who have had name changes and not come to any harm
Old wives tales are just that
I doubt anyone believes a heather selling gypsy so why believe this one

And to be blunt....if you bought a boat called "P@@s Flap Pink" and didn't change it's name, it's not going to end well.
Don't change it. Apart from the bad luck thing it is very much a part of the boats history and may bring you some interesting tales in the future.... Also name stickers arnt cheap
When we purchased our rib it came with the name 'viking'.
I wanted to change the name but my wife informs me that it is 'bad luck' to change the name of a previously owned boat.
So, we go through a conversation whereby I tell her that there is no such thing as 'luck' and that luck is nothing more than a head or tail toss of a coin, the outcome being '50/50 chance'
So what gives here, does superstition rule the day?
I was very lucky. Bought a RIB recently which had no name markings. Just before delivery I asked the previous owner who replied with my daughter's name! No need for a change... [emoji3]
