Name that Langstone slipway
I spotted a slipway from the tug today and was wundering if any body knows the name of the firm that owns it.
It is loacated right at the top of langstone Harbour and appears to be in private boatyard next to the Solent aggregates gravel yard which is near the recycling centre

Is it the one pictured?
If it is, then its Broardmarsh public slip.
Nice slipway but restricted by tides. used to use this slip when i worked nearby. The council keep putting up concrete bollards to keep the pikeys out, makes it tricky to get a trailer in, used to unhitch and push it through by hand!
Shared with boatclub nextdoor.

thanks Simon. That one I kno of and I think also has a height restriction. In the map you will see the river forks just after the slipway and on the right hand fork there is a gravel yard immediately after that and hidden from view is the boatyard and slipway that I was wondering about

yeah i know it well, its called broadmarsh, bit of a coastal park really, theres a figure of eight kinda dirt track just to left of it, which i take the boys in the jeep and have my own little rally whoops probably gonna get shot down for that now ... ahh well its good crack anyway
never launched there but seen plenty of smallish boats launched there, really wide slip and nice gentle gradient, good for 3 cars at the same time i reckon -obviosuly tides will be an issue potentially

Thats using Windows Live Local. http://local.live.com/. Its a rival site to Google earth. They seem to have a better library of photos than google earth as well. They are very detailed photos round here, and also there are some special birds eye shots, which is the photo i have used, but they only cover certain areas of the country and portsmouth happens to be one of these areas.

A nice big slip that does dry out and is plagued by travellers. Certainly wouldn't want to leave a car there for any length of time.

Thanks guys,
Sorry for not getting back sooner, I was training yesterday and then luckily we had a nigt tow on the tug ( l love the water at night)
Nice pictures Rich Simon you are truly wise and yes the slipway I am referring to is the one indicated 'possibly a slipway'. The Broadmarsh slipway is restricted by height barriers to 2M I think, might be handy to mention that in Boatlaunch.
It's not for me cos we have a crane in the yard where our Skool is and a slipway nearby but Nasher was looking for a Slipway near to his home.
So does anybody know what the name of the yard is or am I gonna have to haul my lazy arse of the tug and walk 400 yards to find out next time we are tugging out of Solent Aggregates

Stuart
Thanks very much, the yard you've identified is interesting, I didn't know it was there, or anything about it. Does anyone know any details?
As Stuart said I'm looking for a yard or some land with harbour access with a view to providing storage and minor repairs in the Pompey/Hayling area for those that prefer the East Solent.
The large broadmarsh slip would be wonderful, but the problems have been pointed out already.
There is a 2m high barrier on the approach road, and huge concrete blocks that narrow the approach into an 'S' bend that would be very difficult with even a moderate size trailer.
Also last time I was there the car park had two burn out cars in it, and there were skid marks, etc everywhere. Also loads of dumped rubbish (fridges, beds etc). Which is a great shame, as it could be a beautiful spot.
Not the sort of place I'd like to leave the car and trailer for long.
The whole area is up for redevelopment I believe, as another Port Solent with quick access off the end of the A3. Havant council are not being very helpful with leasing any land, and are being very coy because of the nearby nature reserve.
Nasher.

Sod that "nature" reserve!
I used to cycle to work through that swampy dump, all i used to see were mosquitos, nats and the odd seagull!
Plus lots of men dressed in camo gear with cameras the size of a small cannon! (i guess large lenses are required when photographing mosquitos at 100 yards!)
I used to get cursed at by them, as "my cycling on a footpath was destroying the nature reserve"! (It was either through the nature reserve or along the 4 lane A27)
Flatten it, build a nice big (cheap) marina with a giant RIB shop and a petrol station offering half price petrol to RIBs.
Thats better.

Neither did I until I couldn't brake quickly enough in the tug the other day and overshot my normal stopping point and there it was at the end of the wharf!

Bedhampton Yard
Hi Nasher,
If memory serves me correctly, the yard is part of Bedahmpton fishing club?
I belive it is also used as a small trading area for making concrete garden ornaments.
If you have time give me a call on 07761 864043.
Cheers

Doesn't look like there's much water up there for a tug Stuart
Do you help them out with a bit of prop dredging?
I had the skeg of our tug (at the back) on the bottom of the dock the week before last whilst trying to get attached to a lock gate to tow it into the dry dock. Thankfully the propulsion (voith) is at the bow so it didn't suck anything through - most odd feeling though, one min we were drifting slowly backwards, and the next we weren't.... it helped a bit, cos it stopped us nicely to give plenty of time to get sorted
I see the Chiefton is coming along nicely now - like the finished paint job. Have you been out on her yet?

no it's certainly not a low tide kinda location.
I am not with Jon's tugs at the moment I am back on Storebror which does silt runs. I am very impressed with the way Jon does look after his fleet and I am sure Chieftan will be very tasty when it is finished. Talking of tasty tugs I saw Goliath the other day

Was Goliath towing a jack up barge per chance? - the last pics I saw of her, she had a jackup barge behind her.
Just found a pic of Storebror now, is that a little inflatable hull Avon I see next to her funnel there?!
I've been seconded to the engine room the last couple of times we've done jobs on our tug in the last week - our main engineer has been on night shifts recently which affects us a bit when it comes to operating it.... unfortunately, there's not a lot of automated stuff down below. It is nice though to sit on the oil reservoir with the engine ticking over in the background

So join, I am sure it's easier to get into than some boating oirganisations! then you'll have somewhere to launch your bote.
