nasty fisherman

i was asking a fisherman on mersea island yesterday if he knew where to fuel up near,
what a obnoxius piece of work,
words to the effect of why bothering me. fuel here is only for us "experts" not you day trippers...blah blah blah. i moved on.
i think he looked a bit of a iidiot in front of his mate.
i only asked a polite simple question. made me wonder though what would this "person" do if you need his help out in the drink

>>>asking a fisherman on mersea island

Funnily enough being a polite non-confrontational type of guy I'm used to asking the locals from Scotland to Devon this or that and receiving a helpful answer.

But twice in different years at the end of the Mersea pontoon I've asked a trip boat for some info... just chatter nothing to spoil their business or give local secrets away... to receive a terse "No idea" when they plainly would have known the answer.

Perhaps on busy weekends when you can hardly move or bring a boat in for parents and kids crabbing along the pontoon they just can't be kind to someone with a blow up boat and shiny outboard??
