Southport Coastguard take part in national Pyro trials
Southport Coastguard Rescue Team took part in one of two trials that will be held in the UK to determine the fate of the "Para Flare". Coastguard rescue teams have been using flares for many years however recent proposals have put them on the endangered species list as it were.
The trials took part on Crosby beach from 22.00 till 03.45 hrs last Sunday morning and involved mock casualty searches using the flares.
A spokesperson said: ‘some thirty five flares were fired so we hope a thread on this forum will shed some light on the activity the public around the coast may have seen’.
While the trials were ongoing Southport teams Station Officer Steve Smart was tasked to an attempted suicide in the pier head area of Liverpool, fortunately no life had been lost in this incident as the person had seen sense before carrying out the act.
