Nautech, Chichester - can any provide a reference?

Hi all (mods please move this if it’s in the wrong place) -

I am in discussion with Tom Bettle on a project where he would use the Nautech manufacturing facility in Chichester for the construction of the hull, cabin, fittings etc.

He seems like a great guy - knowledgeable, passionate and detailed but I just wondered if anyone here had worked with him or experienced the products made by Nautech and could give me a reference?

This would be the realisation of a dream as well as can’t-afford-this-to-go-wrong type of money so all advice welcomed!

Please DM me if you don’t want to write comments here.

Thanks in advance! W

I’ve known Tom Bettle through the Sea Fishing Forums since 2007.

That was when I had the Jeanneau 625 Legende.

He was always very knowledgable about boat stuff, and I would not hesitate to work with him.

BUT, as its your money, CAVEAT EMPTOR should always apply!

Isn’t that the guy who’s incessantly plugging the Rafnar boats on FB?

Not sure Dave?

I guess everyone promotes what or whoever they are working for at the time!

I don't know either Tom Bettle or Nautech Composites but a quick look on the company house website suggests Nautech Composites is a relatively new company and was previously called Nautical Tech Ltd and Wytchcraft Composites Ltd in very recent times. Wytchcraft Ltd, which may not be the same as Wytchcraft Composites Ltd, was voluntarily liquidated in March 2018. They do have the same director however.

There may be perfectly valid reason for the changes and the liquidation but if I was embarking on a realisation of a dream and can't-afford-this-to-go-wrong type of project, it would at least make me dig deeper.

On a practical note make sure you have your requirements written down and there is an agreed specification produced. Once you've started building is when the costs start to rise significantly and changes are a real killer to time, cost and quality.
