Need a boat survey

Gentlemen

I am keen to have the benefit of the forum's experience with finding a sensible surveyor. My impecunious eldest son has an ancient 14ft Fletcher that he fools around in but the insurance company requires a hull survey before they will reinsure for this year. He lives around about Romford in Essex. Do any of the learned chaps on here know someone sensible in the area or nearby, say 20/30 miles, who would undertake the survey for a modest fee?

One of our boat club members wanted a survey on a smallish day boat think it was about 18 foot long about 4 years ago ,
I think he was quoted £15 per foot with a minimum price of £275.

I doubt its worth the hassle. Try some different insurance companies, not all of them require surveys regardless of age.

Many thanks for your help. Certainly that was the sort of price for a survey he was asked. I never thought to try other insurers I wrongly assumed they would all have the same requirements. I have found two after a brief search I hope they don't want a huge premium.
