No fear of 2pumps and a squirt now
It's still got a flooding hull and I'm a little red faced to admit I forgot about it in my rush to get her launched. She'd just gone into the water and I was tying her off when I could here this water flooding in...Panic!! Checked the drain plug..no that's ok..then it dawned on me. Felt a right deck head!
I was surprised at how stable it was, moving around didn't make much roll at all. Anyway me telling you lot this is like telling me nan about the war.

Look on the bright side
Now that your not getting any action you'll have loads more time to look after the boat. At least an extra couple of minutes a day
re the hull I really like Matt H's solution to having the floding hull as an option by using removable bungs...very sensible, methinks

The removable bow bungs work well. The stern one however leaked water over a period of time and made the handling....'interesting'... by the time the amount of water was noticeble-it had 30+ litres of water sloshing from bow to stern resulting in some interesting bow-down moments while shutting down fast in chop.
I've replaced the rear one with a semi-permanent stainless disc with a drain bung in it now. Far easier.

Yeah, would be good to see how you've done it. But I think i'll keep it as is for now. The out of the hole speed seems ok to me right now

Matt H made the bungs in the bow holes-they are rubber bungs with bolts through so when you tighten them they expand. On the stern it's just a disc cut out of 1mm brushed stainless stuck on with grey Sikaflex-brushed side inwards-with a hole mullered in it for a normal cheap plastic drain bung so I can drain the hull when it's out of the water. It'll come off with about 5 minutes with a stanley blade.
Can't find any pics-sorry!

Searider bungs in the bow
Hi Guys, have you thought of the possibility that any seepage into the flooding hull could build up,Your rear transom seal breaks off as you go for another record hole shot. The contained water rushes out and puts the decking under a volumetricly displaced vacuum.Seems like a cracking idea to me ! Why not leave your bow vents open with a spring loaded transom seal.Normaly loaded the bow vents are above water, any small ingress is automatically dumped when under way.Less maintenance and risk !

Yes. It's never going to happen-when enough water builds up in the hull to be very noticeable there isn't anywhere near enough in there to cause that. The underdeck area would need to be shaped like a funnel (it's not)to even get a vague possibility of that happening.
Besides, there's times you really do need that extra bit of holeshot on a 5.4-like when you can't see the land over the waves.

Inspired, and a damn sight funnier than half the "comedians" on the telly and radio. Or not depending on who they have called recently and wound up.............

Your tin of Soop is rolling around in The Bilges now.
Are you converting her to a flooding hull?

Errr - no. While it has its place in rescue scenarios, I think the flooding hull concept is a bit quirky. RIBs are hardly unstable at rest!
How many other RIB manufacturers use 'flooding hull technology'?
