So, how does that RedBay Stormforce 6 compare with the smaller Ribeye A500? A smaller, lesser powered boat....but one that I can store at home and perhaps tow/launch more easily. Also, perhaps one that I can spec up as a new boat.

https://www.ribeye.co.uk/models/a-500

Will the lesser RibEye still take us over to InishBofin Island in fine weather (and cope with a choppy run back)?

Cheers guys.

Paul

Think of the difference between a Landrover Discovery 4 and a Ford Fiesta driving off-road, then treble it .... [emoji106]

Blimey. You'd not guess it on reading reviews of the RibEye. I've a LOT to learn.

Boats tend to be built to suit local conditions, Redbays are built in Norn Iron

Stormforce 650 - Redbay Boats
Can I come for a ride mr?

Nice boat high spec different league to a rib-eye, twin engines double maintenace bills, higher fuel burn, etecs which are marmite to run (not sure how they handle long periods of down time though, most motors are better running than sitting, almost 10 year old boat used commercially. Should be well maintained and have plenty of life left in her.

Newer and easier to tow option http://www.rib-x.co.uk/rib-x-classix-5-35m-29995/

Defender vs Evoque maybe?

A Ribeye 500 is a lot less boat than a Redbay 650, but it's by no means a bad one. Ribeye got off to a bit of a shaky start with some pretty poor boats when they first started, and people on here tend to have a long memory. That was getting on for 20 years ago though and they've been putting together some seriously well made boats for well over a decade.

Any time, Mr Dav!

Newer and easier to tow option Rib-X Classix 5.35m
The RIB-X would save me £3k in storage fees, I reckon. But it looks a much lesser hull - would it really be up to fair weather sailing in Ireland?

Cheers again.

Paul, why don't you consider a Ribeye Prime hull they do them in different sizes look on there website. The prime series hulls look very good and got good reviews. Im located to dartmouth so see a lot of primes around and they look serious!

I've never been on a rib-x more leisure orientated design. Doesn't mean it's a bad thing, for a leisure use rib...... demos aren't easy to find especially if you don't have time to go riding around the uk looking at them endlessly lol

You ll find certain brands fashionable in certain areas, doesn't make one better than another, ford, BMW, Honda all make cars, there is no one better than all the others.....

Oh I don't know - there's some commonality:

Begin with "R", two syllables, four common letters....

I know that I shouldn't be choosing a boat this way, but the RibEye PRIME-six19 has exactly the right dimensions I need to sit in my carport (maximum beam width 2.5m). The marketing is a bit off-putting TBH (and I bet doesn't come cheap).

https://www.ribeye.co.uk/models/prime-six19

But if its indeed the tough boat its billed to be, I may give them a call.

Nice video wonder how much discount he got for that?

I do wonder max OB weight 200kg yet Yamaha 150 at nearly 220kg shown...why not make it max weight 220kg???

The Redbay 6.5 is a beamy beast, 2.7m iirc

Yes, that's what I've determined and is a bit of a problem. The beam is the widest dimension, I hope?

The prime looks a great rib. I also had the opportunity to go round the Ribeye factory and I am sure they are well built. However they command a premium cost which makes them not very good value for money.

In terms of engines the Suzuki 140 is hard to beat in terms of power to weight ratio and sits well on a 6m rib.

The RedBay has a wide beam width (2.7m) compared to the Humber (2.4m). How much of a difference does beam width make to performance? It certainly means the difference in getting into my carport (2.52m).
