New Cover - nobody replies!

Hi All,

Does anyone know where I can get a quote for a full-over cover for a 21' RIB?

I've emailed 6 places online and haven't had a single reply. Mine was stolen, and could do with a decent replacement but nobody seems to want the business!

Maybe someone on here does it?

Although down at South Coast I would suggest Covercare ltd at Thornham Marina, very good and if you can take boat to them they can do a cover in a day

Covers

South Coast again, and not the cheapest, but Sanders Sails of Lymington do a brilliant job

Some years ago I looked in yellow pages and had a local guy make mine up who worked for himself doing farm/truck covers etc.

He was bril, he offered a choice of materials and colours, did an excellent job and I paid him in cash!

Not involving the marine industry seemed to make it all alot cheaper.

Out of interest.....how much do you guys think is acceptable for a 6m cover??

I've been quoted about £800 which I thought was pretty steep?!

That wouldn't surprise me in the least. There are so many different materials out there. I would only advise anyone getting quotes from different suppliers to get a full spec of the materials quoted for and a breakdown on materials and labour. It's pretty obvious stuff really.

We are looking at £1500 plus for the yacht canopy

Since you are in Fareham, Coastal Covers are just down the road in Clarence Marina or Tecsew just round the corner.

Coastal Covers

HOME | Tecsew

However, those e bay boat covers are the cost effective answer, have a search on here lots of us bought them a couple of years ago and they are up to the job.

Mastertrim did the cover for my Vipermax, mainly got it to protect the boat during shipping but it seems decent, I think it was about £450 odd extra from what I remember.

Boat, marine and especially yacht, when added to a quote are a bit like adding wedding to cake or flowers etc. You know it's going to be 30% more!

Right, I've mailed all of those people above, so will see who comes back quickest! This is an insurance job as part of a claim where my whole boat was slashed, so just need to get it done really!

Many thanks for all the replies!

I see you have a BWM rib. Which model is it? I am going to be looking for a cover for mine as well and would be interested to hear how you get on and price.

It's a BWM DeepSea 21, and the quotes I have so far are from 550-700.

Haven't seen any other BWM RIBs, ever! Is yours the same model?

Have you tried H M Foam in Calne?

I had all my seats re-upholstered there, and whilst chatting to the guy he said the would have no problem quoting for a custom made cover.

I haven't tried them actually. I just re-upholstered part of the seat with bits from Ebay too. Still, if the insurance company is paying, I might as well get it done professionally!

I would really recommend them, very helpful and they did a great job for me. They even made up new wooden backs inside the seat back covers where the old ones had started to rot.

I have a Deep Sea 21 as well that I am currently rebuilding. It has a small cubby on the front big enough to sleep 2 comfortably and I am currently installing a 275 BHP BMW 3.0 TDi and Castoldi jet.
I also have a 2003 Porter 6500 Renegade with a Suzuki 140 injected 2 stroke (gas guzzler) on the back. This is the same hull as the BWM 21 with a different stern. (Porters used to lay up the boats for BWM in the later stages and eventually made their own RIBs from the mould). I am after a cover for the Porter and will also be looking for one for the BWM when its finished, although that will be a custom cover.

There was another orange Deep Sea 21 kicking around on several sites for sale that has a Yanmar 3.0 ( by the looks of the pics) and Castoldi jet. He is making some serious BHP claims in the ad. I believe it was in Wales?
