New free almanac

Has anyone tried the Wiley Nautical Almanac yet?

I got an email about it today, but haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

Just Downloaded it, Looks fantastic . Bit disappointed that it only covers the south and not Wales and Scotland but still handy for tides and other references.

Brilliant for the money

A bit slow on my desktop, but not the Almanac's fault there. Yeh, I like it!

Downloaded it ok but was unable to register and therefore view. It requires you to fill in an address form including a compulsory field "Select Country" from a drop down menu...the drop down menu was empty and it didn't allow you to type in anything. Nor did it allow you to proceed.

More work needed, it seems

I've managed to download it with no problems. You do need to install Adobe Air as part of the process which is not something I've come across before.

It looks good to me, especially as it's free! It's only been out for a week, so I'm sure that they will be adding more content in due course.

Yep, done that.

I was going to ask you if you were running XP or Vista but I've thought better of it. I'm sure you don't want the thread hijacked by the Vista-Is-Crap-XP-Is-More-God-Like-Than-Eric-Clapton brigade

This message will be self-detructed shortly by JK

XP. I don't mind telling people that I was lucky enough not to get Vista last time I got a new PC!

If Andy Moore comes along to tell us we should all be using Macs though, it's heading straight for the bilges

What is it with these on-line Almanac guys? One goes out of business just after some of us pay for it, the other won't download/install/run*

Downloaded no probs very handy site. Like the fact that once a port is loaded you can then work off line. Agree that it will be good if they expand.

Reply from an email I sent to Wiley asking about coverage:

______________

Hello
We would love to extend coverage when possible. At the moment we have the maps and data for the 150 ports currently featured. As the almanac grows in use and popularity we hope to be able to extend the coverage. So the short answer is watch this space, support our advertisers and tell your friends.

All the best

Charlotte

I'm using Windows 7 RC and it installed first time with no intervention from me.

Looks really useful, especially since I'm new to ribbing and will be looking for places to go.

Thanks for the link!

Tried it this again morning and the registration form worked fine. This time, the drop down menu for 'Country' is there

From then on, all ok. Nice, useful site. And, it's free!
