New Rib
Hi Guys
I'm thinking of a 6.5m to 7.5m rib in the med in Turkey, it needs to have a decent range, and fast cruise (over 30kts preferably over 35kts), be good for water skiing(slalom) so not having a huge wake, and looking good would be a bonus. .
I've been offered a Grand Goldline G750 and a also a Brig 6.5 and Goldline 650, have been mentioned today.
Anyone know these boats or have any suggestions on orhers that are available out there, I did look at an Osprey vipermax 7.3, but getting out there was a bit of an issue.
Any thoughts or advice is welcome.
Thank you
Graham

Of the three I'd definitely go Vipermax a class above... and much better all round RIB IMO....As to issues "getting out there"... You will own and use you're choice for years to come so make sure you make the right one for you in the long run
Good luck.

I have a 6.5m XS Rib with 150hp Mercury, low engine hours, for sale in UK in case of interest. Shipping would be £3-4K I believe. Cruises at 30kt+, max speed 42kt.
Great boat and super well built.

The issue with getting it out there, is that I'm fine with having it shipped to Athens in a container, I think it'll be a great trip from Athens to Turkey, I don't need a trailer, so it will be on blocks in a container, I have no idea how I get it out of a container, in a port, to floating, any ideas on this might help.

I think I'd keep it on the trailer (which doesn't add any real length or cost in the equation) and put the whole thing in the container so it's then easy to get it out at the other end and launch it on a slip. Then you can sell or even donate the trailer to someone in Athens and motor away!
Or, you could have the haulier do all that for you - when you ask for a quote at somewhere like uShip.com you can specify the services you need and they will then extract your boat and arrange to have it placed into the water without bothering you.
Finally, I was talking about shipping a boat (not this one) with Nikos at Labea Yachting in Athens and he seemed helpful so he might well be able to sort it for you too.

He’s looking for a boat with minimal wake at water ski speeds. is the viper max the best in that regard? I’m not a water skier but intuition says deeper v = more wake?

All I can say re the XS is that my family and I have done a bunch of water-skiing, donutting and also wakeboarding behind it and it seems to suit the purpose very well. You can vary the wake quite significantly with engine trim and, of course, towing speed. For donuts 18-22 knots is fun but not dangerous. For wakeboarding, trim the engine down and run at 15-18 knots creates a good wake to jump. For skiing a flat trim and 25 knots or so (depending on experience) is a nice flat wake.

I've know a 7m Osprey used for Skiing locally and it goes very well...they are pretty deep V with all the advantages we know and love ..but also has planing pad at the rear of the of the V that seems to help hole shot from standing in a calm Sea..and reduce wake somewhat at higher speeds/skieing ...Unlike the continuous deep V on my RC of the same size, which does IMO have the edge in the rough...particularly for softer landings in a following sea...
A feature NOT quite as important ....when you've a Skier attached!

Thank you all so much, I ski slalom at around 32-34mph, the flat pad at the back of the vipermax Hull does sound interesting, ive arranged a go in one for next month so I'll see, I've also been told that adding trim tabs can reduce the size of the wake? Also I'm wondering if there would the be much difference in wake between a vipermax 6.8m, 7.3m and 8m as they are all the same beam?

Hi Graham, when you come and take a look at the end of March feel free to bring some skis ;-) I can confirm that we have a customer who is a regular waterskier and highly rates the wake off the Vipermax with the planing pad helping in that respect. The fact the Vipermax also lifts quickly on to the plane and does not wallow is also a big help.
