New RIB
Another little project currently in the BananaShark workshops - it's a very old hull that is having some tubes, new seats and a console fitted to it. The owner, current OCR British Champion Bob Mcarthy is doing a lot of the work himself, and it will have the tubes fitted next week by Paul Tilley .......... can anyone guess what it is, there will be clues eventually, but the hull is very old!
1 Tube carriers and floor
2 Trial fitting of the tubes
3 Kitten masking up the tube to make the shell for a console
4 Transom and side shot almost ready for the tubes
5 The tubes are well protected in case of a stuff!
The hull is getting on for 30 years old - by the way it's had a new transom as well!

No Rogue - Bob Mcarthy!
The rest of you are nowhere near - but it is a very well known make!
And the same person was resonsible for the vinyl cockup! I realised just after I stood back to admire my handiwork - I was just thinking what a good job I had done with no creases or bubbles to get rid of and saw that half the letters were missing - we left it like that for the rest of the season and you're the first person to notice!

Cookee when are you boys going to make a 5.5 metre version of the banna shark, must be a market for a fast under 6 metre rib think about the sales prospect to all us small boaters looking for more speed without the lenght or problems associated with 6 metre + boats !

Good question Bilge - we've got our hands full at the moment, we're also fitting anti stuff wings on a customers boat, got 2 Phantom 19s to build, got the RCD / CE stuff to do on the leisure boat and then find some customers for it!
The next project could well be a smaller hull but you can bet it won't be anything like what's on the market at the time!

Cookee the suggestion started as a joke but i recon in all honesty there is a market gagging for a small fast hulled rib, just take a good look at all the posts based around sub 5 metre ribs and there obvious need for more speed, seems everyone's trying to squeeze as much out of there engine as possible to gain that extra knot or 2, once you get above 6 metres its a completely different ball game, and there are a lot of different boats to choose from all for similar money, what the market needs is an innovative small company like yourselves at the cutting edge to come up with a solution and build a small stable and very fast hull, couple it to sleek tubes and the correct seating and engine combination and you'd revolutionise the small rib market, someone's bound to do it at some point, no longer are small ribs considered as just safety boats or tenders !!

John, did this hull have tubes before you got your hands on it ? there aren't that many rib builders who have been around for 30 years.
Perhaps another clue then ?
Pete

Hi Pete,
No the tubes are something that are being added for the first time! It's a well known make and it was the plug originally - and it has a step in the hull .........

You mean like the Shakespeare 520 then?
This is the first 520 out of the mold we have wrigged it with a 60hp which we are getting 35 knots, however she is rated to a 115hp (we dont want any one to kill them selves) which we estimate excess of 50 knots but she will take a 140hp no problem. I dont belive you will get a 5.2m boat that handles like this one. The one pictured has got full size tubes, but you can have the option of a tapoured tube also.
The next one will be our personall boat and will be rigged with a Suzuki 140 hp, wings and a spare pair of pants.
