matt - I'm sure there are some differentiators hidden somewhere in that message, but I'm not seeing them. Don't get me wrong Ribcraft are great boats; but they've moved factory through growth (so whilst still in Yeovil have evolved as other brands have - probably for the better), and all the brands listed earlier offer various layouts and will bespoke to your requirements and open their factory doors.

I'm obviously missing summat here. I thought Matt's comment was pretty straightforward & inoffensive & certainly less "exuberant" than some of his posts. So why the harsh comment from Mollers & the cryptic comment from Poly, is there some history?

Matt's comment was edited after Mollers "feedback"...

...I try to make all my posts cryptic that way you get fun unpicking them. However on this occasion it was pretty straightforward: Matt H gave a list of reasons why you should by a Ribcraft but almost all those reasons were all equally applicable to all of the other brands being proposed so weren't really reasons for selecting Ribcraft over the competition.

If people are going to "tell" a user what to do I'd like to see them back it up with some substantive reasoning.

Thanks for all the comments, keep them coming. Looks like Osprey and Ribcraft have some very strong fans but no one yet to support XS.

XS are indifferent. A perfectly good boat at a keen price.

It says something about a brand when they create a loyal or enthusiastic following.

Ribcraft have this (haven't owned one)
Osprey certainly have this (and it includes me)
Scorpion too - future owner I hope

There will be other such brands.

There used to be a few keen XS owners on here. Never heard anyone say anything bad about them. They'd be on my possibles list - but if budget is not a key factor I think you'll end up going with one of the others.

I want something robust and simple with a good sea hull, I have narrowed the choice to Ribcraft, Zodiac milpro, Redbay, Ribquest, XS Ribs. In your experience, which builder will give the best service and produce the best quality boat with no delivery issues or warranty arguments?
Other consideration is size of the deposit/stage payments while the boat is being built. The smaller the better.

Cheers!
Hi there.. Im an owner of a 7.3M Ribquest (3 years old) with 250HP. I am looking to promote the sale at the used boat show (not yet on the market). Bought new and spec'd the build direct with Ribquest. Boat has been stored on a dry stack and is immaculate. <150 hours, and serviced regularly. Selling due to new house purchase taking up all my time (oh and money). Let me know if (available immediately) previously owned ribquest 7.3M, is of interest to you.? - Regards

Nothing wrong with XS, in fact I think they are often an overlooked brand on this forum. No nonsense and strong with good ergonomics. Ergonomics are so often overlooked by rib builders, such as when it gets rough you want to be in the rib as opposed to on the rib ( freeboard) and you don't want the windscreen right by your face when hitting waves hard. You also need to be able drain a lot of deck water fast. Crew needs to have suitable hand holds......
Why are XS always a few £k less than someone like RC ? Maybe RC just wants to or need to make more profit per boat..I'll never know.

I've spent a lot of time off Scotland in up to F8 in 8m Scorpions and would have rather been in ribs with better rough water ergonomics in those conditions yet on calmer days enjoy the quick hull of them.

Most rib makers have a niche market whether that is racing, family boating, rough water ergonomics, med style layouts etc etc . There is no rib that is perfect for all of these, they will compromise in certain areas in their various sizes.

I need two boats !

Hi,

I have an XS 750 with 250hp Verado on the back, purchased new from Barnet Marine. Found them good to deal with, build quality great and specced as I requested. A seriously good workboat as well, with huge carrying capacity and a child-friendly feel - you sit in it, not on it.

Worth a drive!

Mike

For your money I would go with a company who specialise in listening to the customer and building a great value for money boat.

I have looked at the Ribquest ribs in the past and the build quality and attention to detail is excellent. I was lucky enough to go out in a 7m and a 6.3 at rib ex a couple of years ago and the boats were really lovely. It reminds me of the good old British days of strong engineering, functional and value for money. No hidden costs.

For me I now have an older redbay which is lovely but if I was in the market for new i wouldnt think twice and go for their 5.8 or 6.3.
