Shame it's not a Osprey, it'd probably be a 6.8 or something

That is one of the downsides, it has an eTec fitted at the moment but I reckon I can sell that and get a proper engine.

Besides the fact that the one Martin is looking at has an etec, you do know that some of the biggest news in marine diesels at the moment is two stroke tech?

Nothing new about 2 stroke diesels, been around since well before the war although no doubt they don't remotely resemble the latest ones.
Funny how old technology gets dropped then reappears decades later with new technology.
The latest is 2 stroke diesels with opposing pistons, ie 2 per cylinder, I think Iveco have just brought a truck engine out in that config.
In my younger days I used to do a bit of work on the Leyland L60 which had the same config. Used in the Chieftan tank up till the '70s. Supercharged 2 stroke diesel 19litre 750hp, running them up on the workshop test bed was most enjoyable although not as sweet as the RR Merlins! Think there's a couple of vids on the net.
Oops I appear to have drifted off in mist of reminiscence
