I just took delivery of this beast. Wife wanted something more "practical" for her and the kids. Not sure how practical it'll be at the fuel dock, but enjoying it so far!

Gingercoastie had pretty much the same boat in Falmouth a few years ago. IMV, the Protector is the best looking cabin Rib available.

I'm jealous, that's an awesome boat. Have you gotten her out in open sea yet? I met a guy in Maine this summer with one, yours looks much better, by the way, he loves his.
If there was a boat I would upgrade to, a cabin rib like yours would be it.

You're right. If I had 100k the options are a house or flash cruiser in the med as if you have that money for private luxuries, you'd fly to warmer climes.

I don't understand, an open rib costs say 30-40k new for a v nice 6-7m. Why can't someone design one with a small cabin that isn't butt ugly for 5k more?

I don't understand that either. I mean you can buy a basic 5m hull and tubes for what - about £5k? - which is X amount of fibreglass work so to build a cabin on a slightly larger craft, which is probably less work and certainly less materials, shouldn't be any more...

There is certainly a hole in the market, but it has been discussed before indirectly, though noone comes up with an answer. Biffer seems to make a great conversion, but as one offs I'm sure his work is expensive (no disrespect biffer).

Cmon middle road brands, humber/osprey/ribcraft/ribquest etc, come up with a solution/offering with a fibreglass canopy shaped like this protector, but without all the other trimmings that make it 100k!

Thanks Bill. I had her out Sunday in about 18kts and 4 footers. Once I figured out the trim tabs, she cut through the waves nicely. The Verados make her somewhat stern heavy IMHO, but the tabs make a big differrence in those conditions.

Took her into work Wednesday in flat seas and hit 49 knots on the approach to Boston harbor. Very solid even at that speed.

I agree with the posts about price. New, they are not at all cheap. But used....this is a buyers market if you have cash.

i wouldn't like to fuel that package in the UK with the £5/$9 per gallon ish prices ATM.

as you say this is a buyers market at the moment and i'm sure you will pick up a decent price rib no matter your budget-i saved a few quid myself on mine due to the current market.

bit like the used car market though. new cars lost a fortune from 2008 to late 2010. Then cars 2-5 years old of good history suddenly found their prices rose due to demand for them. Same with boats i guess. Everyone wants a nearly new, either just in warranty or just out, well looked after, with a lack of supply of new boats at the top of the chain, it's arguably getting worse. Decent quality second hand boats are sought after.
