Mike Deacons done it again. After breaking the circumnavigation record last year and then losing it to a Sunseeker he's regained the crown for Ribbing!
Lifted this off the Scorpion website (after Brian tipped me off!)
"
Stop Press - SCORPION TAKE WORLD RECORDS August 2002
Hot Lemon IV, a Scorpion 10m Cruiser, broke the outright world records for powered circumnavigation of mainland Great Britain in the under 30ft and under 50ft records yesterday, Wednesday 7th August 2002.
Travelling some 1,440 nautical miles in 37 hours and 51mins 35 seconds, beating the previous Sunseeker's record by 1 hour and 59 minutes.
Crew: Mike & David Deacon along with Chris Strictland and Jan Falkowski.
Scorpion RIBs congratulate Mike and the team for such an excellent performance for the second year running and 'clipping' some 5hrs off their previous record."
Knocking a couple of hours off is very impressive!
Just got off the phone to Graham Jelley -- Impressive stuff! After spending the entire week-end, (2 weeks ago) on this rib, I can attest to the unbelievable performance, speed and handling of the 10m Scorpion 'Hot Lemon IV'. She's a beast
Now I could be wrong here chaps, but....
My understanding is that there are 3 world records that we are talking about here:
Under 30ft
Between 30 and 50ft
and Outright record
Mike still holds the under 30ft (set last year in Hot Lemon Three). He broke the other two at that same time.
However, a Sunseeker subsequently beat the 30 to 50ft and the outright record a few weeks later.
Mike has now taken back the two records set by the Sunseeker.
He obviously didn't beat the Under 30ft this time as Hot Lemon Four, at 10m, is over 30ft.
So Mike now holds all three world records AGAIN.
Brilliant news. Well done chaps.
Anybody else fancy a crack at it. Chris Strickland and Mike Byrne both have 10m twin engined Scorpions????
It gets even more confusing!
The out right over all record holder for the fastest power boat to circumnavigate Britain is Fabbio Buzzi who did it last year in his boat " Record" in 32 hours. This is the holy grail that Sunseeker are after and presently on standby for a weather window.
To my knowledge there isnt a seperate World record for RIB's (or perhaps there should be one. I have heard through the grapevine that Fabbio is intending to challenge his own record later on this year in his 55 ft super rib. Watch out for this one it does 120 knots! Not with standing any of the above, Mike and his crew deserve all the credit and praise in the world, there is a huge difference between the competing teams. Mikes boat is used for weekly fun and the others are built specificaly to have the B#####Ks kicked out of them.
