Update

So after your guys direction. I think it’s best to raise the engine 200mm.

After studying it today it seems to make sense. The hydrofoils are like 160mm below the water line! Which must be playing havoc on speed and steering. I bet the previous owner put them on to solve the problems.

Do I go for a big aluminium plate. Thinking 12-15mm thick 500mm tall and 400mm wide.

There would be 100mm raised above the transom and the remaining 400mmx400mm on the transom.

Do these dimensions seem

(I’m going to loose the ability to fully raise the engine due to A frame height. But should still have some tilt and trim function).

The plate should weigh 8-10kg depending on thickness. Will my transom be up for it? 😂

Pikeydave I’ve included a photo of the only plate on it

Thanks for all the direction genuinely appreciate it. Is you all a beer!

Can’t make head nor tail of that photo. It’s not what I was expecting. Are you sure there isn’t another one on the transom bracket somewhere? Something like this

1B202085 comes back as a 2005 115EFI EXLPT 4S, apart from the shaft length it’s a heavy engine, the L shaft is 175kg so add a few more kg’s for XL. A lot of Eagles were fitted with the Suzuki DT100 from new, ND must have had a deal with Suzuki at the time.

Thanks for that, where did you find the info ,l had a good look but couldn’t find anything resembling the number format.
You’ve confirmed that it’s an XL engine & we know that it’s a L transom, so therein lies the problem.

What do you think about the plate idea?
Hoping the transom is up for it.

Not many decent outboards about this part of Ireland. So repowering probably not a realistic option for me.

PD - some of the American part suppliers websites like Crowley have serial number lookups on their home page, doesn’t work all the time but usually good with Mercury stuff.

Smagu - Is that the one that was on DoneDeal a couple of weeks back, in Kerry maybe?
If the transom is up to it a plate would work fine. Did something similar recently for a friend, he wanted to upgrade but couldn’t find a decent 20” motor, eventually found a nice 25” so used a manual Jack plate with a small setback, it added a little extra weight but easy enough to manage.
That A frame doesn’t look like an original, they were taller and narrower, but easy enough to modify if needs be.
