I'm a Solent boater and the difficulty with the Solent Chop is whilst the waves aren't that high, the distance between them is pretty small and therefore the wave slope is quite steep.

Anywhere that has sufficient wind against sufficient tide will be susceptible to 'Solent Chop' but I guess the popularity of the Solent means that a significant number of people will have experienced it in the Solent.

I think the other thing to take into account with The Solent is that a; it has a double tide and b; there are an awful lot of boats and ships in a relatively small area - everything from massive container ships, oil tankers, ferries, Ribs, gin palaces etc not to mention hundreds of sail boats. c; The topography of the sea bed is very peaky and troughy, if that's a word. It also has some very shallow and very deep areas.

We are relatively inexperienced (11 years) compared to most on here, but on a passage from Hamble to The Needles and back you can experience so many sea states ranging from totally glassy flat to downright scary.

If you're not a 'regular' here please don't take the p$ss. It can be very challenging, and I know that others on here with huge experience will back that up.

I normally give people the benefit of the doubt but if we analyse the evidence :-

Huachuca City is the OP's location, one of the hottest most arid places in the USA.
They claim to be going to some islands off the coast of Sicily, Italy.
The OP uses metric measures, very few people use metric in the USA.
It was a Saturday night with FA on the tv.

As I said, I could be wrong, but............

To be fair I did enjoy some of Dennis's posts and he did initially give me the idea for naming Redneck, albeit he ment it as an insult!

It's a diversity law thing... for every three new members registered to Ribnet there has to be one fake BP account.

I think you could do worse than reconsider your opinion ,which you have formed from posts by others ,i have boated with BP on many occasions and can tell you (as i Know ) that he would not knowingly "insult " anybody .
Personally i am not sure he is here anymore ,and thought the name Lemon bb was a follow on for the guy we had who had swallowed the prop selection guide !

Orwell boy I don't have anything to reconsider. Did you actually read what I said, if you didn't, I shall repeat it - "I did enjoy some of Dennis's posts"? Shall I say it again - "I did enjoy some of Dennis's posts"

Have you read the post where he did insult me by saying I was like a "Redneck" because I put my sib on the roof of my truck. If you don't understand why/how it could be construed as an insult, Google it, or if that is beneath you, read some American history. Use the term "Redneck" being used as an insult. Please don't say he didn't try to insult me, as he knows and I know he did try, but that's water under the bridge and it has now turned into a bit of a joke.

As for "easily lead" - I make my own opinions. Dennis is in "my opinion" probably intelligent, articulate, friendly to those he likes, sociable with those he wishes to be with, but doesn't have a mute button (sorry Dennis, I know you will read this) and pushes things a little to far, winds others up and doesn't know when to back off. Would I go for a drink with him, of course I would and we would probably have a good chat and a good time, but would we be bossom buddies, I don't think we would as I know we are to different.

I don't think he's still on Ribnet. He is more than content doing what he does and has moved on. He contacts me most times I post a video, and I do appreciate his comments and I reply accordingly.

So Orwell boy, next time you make a derogatory comment about me, such as "easily lead", get your facts correct.

Orwell boy, I note that you have edited your post and removed the "easily lead" statement, unfortunately it was to late for me not to have read it. Did you realise that you should think before you post?

Never been up the Humber then with a decent wind against tide?

Clearly sea conditions with the right elements can be challenging pretty much anywhere, its the constant ( and unjustified ) belittling of the Solent 'chop' that's now getting boring
