New to UK boating

Hi there I have just came back to UK after 6 years in Singapore, and shipped my 6mt Zodiac RIB (fast rescue craft) back here, question is apart from getting insurance what do I need to do to make it legal here, or is it just a case of "chucking it in the water"

I know I need a VHF licence if I want to use one of those

Many thanks in advance

You are right about the VHF

On the open sea (ie not rivers or canals where some have an annual tax to pay), you don't have to have anything in particular.

However to launch at council slips etc many require either registration which often means proof of insurance. Insurance is a good idea anyway!

Many people complete a CG66 form to register your boat and where you use it etc with the coastguard. No obligation to, but a good idea for when you call for help! They would then know a lot about you straight away.

All that is said within the limits of my knowledge, which many will point out does have limitations and the caveat of no guarantees! Those many will also probably highlight other things to consider.

Welcome home and also to RIBNET!
