Newbie Help on Tube
Hi all sorry if this is basic, am looking at buying a rib, one thing, is the flakey bits on the back tubes just anti foul paint? Or more sinister?
Please see attached picture.
Any help very gratefully received

Thanks for the welcome Chewy.
I was told it was anti foul paint!!
Not sure about this, its on both sides.
The Rib is a Ribtec 7.85 2001 with a 225HP Otimax which has done 775hrs.
Am a bit concerned about fuel consumption, am buyingas a Dive Rib to take to Spain, when we start up in the Summer.

Looks like antifoul, you can get antifoul for tubes.
Whats the problem with fuel consumption?

Have been told she might only do 50 litres per hour at cruising speed. Sound right to you?

I'd be more than happy with that.
Might be worth starting a thread about that specific engine as I've only had older two strokes.

I believe she was bought new for trips around the harbour, but has been in private hands for around 4 years.

what harbour? was it Poole/ lymington.
As most harbours have got speed limits that's a waste of a powerful engine. If you have access to the tubes go scrape a bit off and see what happens

I have the 200 which will cruise at 30knts using about 32lph on a heavy 7.5m boat so not sure where the 50lph comes from. I get about 42knts on 50lph.

She was in Poole harbour.
When I scrape the area with my finger nail it just flakes off. As I said I was told that the part of the tubes that remain in the water were painted with an anti foul paint. I have found on the net several such paints such as Polymarine SP54 Hypalon Antifoul.
Has anyone used this before, and if so what sort of prep would be needed?
