Yep not sure id be too keen either hoping a warranty of a mass market produced boat will be honoured in 3-5yrs by a Ukraine based firm.

Ok thanks I will clip my post titles in future

Thanks for insurance recommendations I will check them out.

Just to clarify I am using this rib to hop around the coves of anglesey nothing more and maybe tow the kids on a banana or such like. I will be wearing flip flops a tee shirt and shorts. I don't intend at this juncture to go to the Isle of Man.

Looking forward to it

Ps it won't have bullet holes in it as it's an ex demo and in blighty now.

Thanks for all your help look forward to posting pics when I have it.

Max

"Of course I have done my research after taking the RYA PB 2 course and got down to a rib eye and a Brig. I didn't like the way the tubes on the ribeye sit out of the water when stationary which gave a rockier ride at anchor so went with the brig."

The larger Ribeyes do, but the 6m Ribeye sits with the tubes on the water & hence is very stable. The 6m Ribeye is probably similar to the Brig you bought. That said, the Brig looks good and is cheaper than the Ribeye. Not sure why.

FWIW I use Porthcawl insurance.

Newbie of the year award

Max, without question, you get my vote for 'Newbie of the Year' 2014.

To title your opening post on RibNet 'Newbie with a Brig' and still be going strong after 50 posts without a sense of humour meltdown is all the evidence required to know you'll fit in well around these parts.

Allegedly, amongst other things:

You've paid a load of dosh to a company that's representing a brand that's 'gone bust' and haven't yet received your boat

You're relying on a 'Ukranian' warranty

Your boat is riddled with bullet holes

The transom's made of cardboard

As I said in my original post, welcome to RibNet and I look forward to meeting you out on the water.

By the way, I've got insurance but hesitate to recommend them. I pay them FAR too much each year in my opinion and all they've done so far is address the policy documents to the right house. With any luck, that's all they'll ever have to do.

Agreed, Newbie of 2014, still here and not got embroiled in it all.

As you can see, even the long time posters get ribbed on here for any comment that has an opinion and/or any flaw in it. There's posters on here who quote you from a post many years ago and say you are contradicting yourself. The fact they've spent so long searching for it is comedy in itself!

Good site though and the longevity of members is testament to that. Moderators stop anything going too far (unless it's them (hide)) and keep (most) idiots/trolls away.

Welcome again!

You might want to find the search tool. not only could you have found previous brig stories including a recent significant transom failure but you will find literally hundreds of threads on insurance.

UK law is very clear, wolfrock are liable for the fitness for purpose of the goods not the OEM. With it being ex demo though he might want to check it is being sold as new not second hand as his rights will be much diminished.

It takes great restraint to let as many idiots in as we do!

welcome to RIBnet Max, as Barrowboy says you are deffo in line for an award

I use towergate, have done so since 2001 and had the dubious pleasure of making a claim a few years back when the engine was stolen, all I can say is they dealt with it fairly and promptly and I continue to insure with them, both the Revenger and Searider have just been renewed this week

spinlock deckvest lites get my vote, very comfy to ware for a full day, hopefully won't have to find out the har way how good they are if used in anger

if you've no real ties to launching at Beaumaris I'd recommend Ty Calch at Caernarfon, Chris operates a very slick service and can launch and recover at all states of the tide into sheltered waters, local storage available for a weekend or full season, whichever suits

hope to see you out on The Menai sometime, it's a great place to explore, my only advice would be to buy a chart and study it before launching and spend some time in The Swellies at low water to see where the lumpy bits are, they take no prisoners, but do offer some great ribbing experiences

Thanks to all posters. I gratefully accept your award of Newbie of the Year 2014 and receiving my Nelson Hat and eye patch.

Chris we trained at Porth Daniel and did the Swellies a couple of times but will definitely need a chart to remind me of waypoints ....it is great fun though.

Look forward to seeing you on the straights.

Having the op to remove my right arm to complete the look next week....and like him I will be back to work within the hour,!!
