I have just read this thread from start to finish. I am not sure if it is my time of the month but I think the OP is riding this thread out way better than I would.
You typically join a forum to gain knowledge and speak with individuals who share a common interest. I thought his OP was quite clear in that he has bought a RIB and is obvious based on what he has bought he has paid a reasonable amount of money for it. I think immediately slating a new members choice of boat is bang out of order and some members could be a bit more constructive with their comments.
I appreciate everyone has their own preferences and views, if we didn't we would all be driving RC585 and 3.0l A5's
A forum should be welcoming, and it may pay certain members to review the community rules http://www.rib.net/forum/misc.php?do...ork&page=rules
I am off now to take my happy pills

His first post stated acquired and without singling members out comments were already made and then followed the OP saying a deposit had been placed which would still be a reasonable amount of money. I'm not looking to get into who said what when, but the comments don't seem to be inviting to a new member, and if people want to warn or help new members posts could have been worded in a more helpful way

AJ I get where you are coming from but..
- Either he appeared here having done no research up till now but having committed to a high cost purchase OR
- He already knew the forum weren't exactly major fans of Brigs but he was brave enough to post here anyway, and to make it very clear he'd bought a Brig...
It'd seem odd for his first post to be on here about insurance if he'd done no research... ...so I think he knew he was chucking a grenade in...

I went out and bought a Bayliner without advice and didn't even think about insurance until after I had bought it ................ (not comparing a Brig to a Bayliner before anybody starts). We can all guess what happened to the Bayliner but doesn't mean the Brig will have the same fate.
I think some of the Brig models look quite good (not the R2D2 condole model) and would be fine for beach hopping. They are not the conventional rib with individual seat pods and passengers in dry suits and geckos prepared for the roughest seas in November. I bet you could pull more birds in a Brig (not Kerny birds) than a conventional rib

I completely overlooked the fact that the RIB was supposed to be a tart trap Gareth
If I'd known that I'd have got one with more seats. Obviously.

This thread is a prime example of why I dont post much on here anymore. The attutide of some members really is verging on pathetic.
I guess some poeple find it hard to be in any way nice and are happy to hide behind thier keyboards in various corners of the country.
On another forum I use someone started a thread titiled 'Is the forum getting up itself?' .....I'd hate to think what would happen on here if that was posted .

I fully agree with what you say here. It also brings to mind a saying about people in glass houses...

It has been done here several times over the years. With a few variations of the precise wording. Some of the threads were very entertaining!
People come, people go. It's cyclical but the balance generally seems to be OK and forum doesn't suffer in the long run.

Odd you mention that Boss - I was just reading one from 2004 last night - Jonny Puller and Charles and RichardB were squabbling. Mike Garside was involved - Boatmad had fallen over (again) and the future was going to be Hotribs forum, if they could reactivate it.... pure comedy!
