Next Rib - Console setup

I'm in the early stages of design for my next Rib.

I don't want anything out of the ordinary for a leisure rib, but I do quite fancy/like the look of, some sort of protection/cabin/large screen/pilot house around the console and jockeys.

Has anyone had anything like this built or spec'd on a leisure rib?

I'm thinking something like the below..

I know Quinqari will build me something like the above, but are there other options? And any ideas on price?

Be aware that an open console with a solid roof can make an outboard boat very noisey.

I can confirm that even a fabric canopy will accentuate engine noise - although I sometimes wonder if that is because there is less wind noise to hide it...

Another point that I can make with personal experience is that a solid top needs a full screen rising to meet it. The coppers in that Humber are putting a brave face on it 'cos that is an absolute wind tunnel with no warming sunshine.

If I do go down this route it will have a full height screen to the roof. I won't have any gaps creating a wind tunnel.

The increased noise is and interesting point. I hadn't considered it.

With a full height screen you also have to consider the visibility in heavy rain or spray. I suspect that is why there is a gap in the police boat pictured.

LOL - I bet it's because there were two rozzers involved in the tender. One wanted to be warm and the other wanted to be dry...

Yes, a wiper but the screen needs to be glass. Nothing wrong with glass but it's heavy so the framing has to be sturdy to support it. I does need to be a laminated panel too.

Interesting thread and a nice position to be in.

If you are going for glass, I'd make it a flat panel as curved glass is harder to wipe and significantly more expensive.

Looking through a screen is OK, looking over the top of a screen is OK but looking through the unwiped part or at the top of the screen particularly if there is a bar there is a pain.

I'm 6'3" and I've been on a couple of cabin RIB's where standing up wasn't an option due to a lack of (for me) headroom.

Redbay do a number of 'wrap around' consoles that may be worth looking at for ideas.

I was thinking about wipers on lexan and I am thinking with the salt its gonna get scratched quite easily and its more weight to have glass so I was thinking of the wipe on stuff you get for car windscreen I think its called rain racer or something the frame work should be more than sturdy its getting constructed from 2" alloy tube so it would support glass

Stuff is rainx and I used to use it years ago, the problem with it is tiny drops of rain still stay on the window but anything large beads off. It was mega annoying on windscreens so I stopped using it as you were constantly looking through smirry rain windscreen if that makes sense.

Much of this has been talked about before on ribnet. You might come across interesting stuff if you do a few searches.....
