nice RIB test area in reach of Yeovil
Hi Guys,
Saturday is the 'big day' that i can collect my Ribcraft 7.8 : )
Do you have any suggestions of a nice testarea / slipway in reach of
Yeovil ? I was thinking of Portland / Weymouth, but more in direction of
Dover is also ok!
Thanks a lot!
Mervyn

Portland Harbour without doubt. The forecast for the rest of the week is dire, you'll get a good stretch of semi-sheltered water within the harbour walls. Venture beyond the walls if conditions permit.

Sounds exciting Mervyn....have fun!
On a complete tangent.....and because i'm nosey ...Mervyn - that's a good Welsh name for a chap from the Netherlands....
It's also my fathers name.....but (and please don't tell anyone else this) he's English (yes, i'm a mugblood)....named after the head brewer in Banks' Brewery in Wolverhampton at the time
Was just intrigued to know whether there was a Welsh connection?
Enjoy the boat!!

Yup, I'd use Portland. it's about 1.5-2 hours from Yeovil depending on traffic. Wide slip onto a pontoon, so nice & easy, sheltered too. It's about £27 quid though IIRC, not cheap.
PS, did your dad get his bike back?

Hey Guys,
Thanks for your quick replies, Portland it will be : )
And to answer you other 'questions' ..
# Dan:
There is no welsh connection between me and Wales : ) but could be in the future, you never know! There might be a brewery connection though, as i am a professional consumer in holland ; ))
# Moller
Haha... yes, my bike has been delivered in neat condition by our neighbours some 50 years ago.. so no problem : )

Poole is another good area to launch and Trial the Boat, with straightforward access to the M27/M3 for your return Journey. Also a lot cheaper than Portland!! " about 8.50 inc parking.. Also no speed limit in the harbour this time of year

I would second Poole for your test, it would make your onward journey easier.
Beware though, not all of the harbour is speed limit free.

As your buying it from Ribcraft, surely speaking to them and then testing it at Portland is the best option, they may even get you a deal on the slipway and if anything is wrong with the RIB they arent that far away to sort it. I guess thats why you are wanting to test it in UK before the long drive home.

I'd be leaning towards Weymouth/Portland area myself. It's only 6 or 7 miles off the way to the M27/M3.
You could use Cobbs Quay's slipway in Poole, but it's VERY expensive there.
Poole's Baiter slipway is handy, but it's not a nice slip to launch/recover from if you're going to drive a long way. You've got to either walk the trailer in and out,use a very long rope or get the car wet.

Weymouth harbour will be pretty quite this time of the year as well, not quite as far as Portland. Might not have any one there collecting slip way fees either
Once you're happy the bay is your playground.

Hi
If you see a 6.8 white GPR, blue tube and orange deck @ Ribcraft please make some pictures for me as I like to know what the status is at the moment.
Cheers
