Night School Navigation

Hi all just had a email from the RYA re theory courses for navigation, they are getting reports that some schools are charging for the cd rom that has the chart plotter on, it is included in the pack and should not be charged as an extra, if you are attending a course this winter in Day Skipper or Yachtmaster
theory and you are charged for the cd please report it to the RYA .
regards Tim

Hi Tim I have started my Day Skipper theory course, but did not get a CD ROM!
Should have I?
The chap running the course is not really up to date with modern technology!

The 2003/4 Dayskipper pack does not contain a CD whereas the 2004/5 pack does and contains specific exercises relating to the use of chartplotters. The CD contains two programs - the Admiralty Chartplotter & the RYA training programme.

All of the packs we have bought recently are 2004/5 so the clear intention would appear to be to not use last years versions. I suggest that you call Phillipa Donne (Philippa Donne, Cruising Scheme Administrator, Direct dial: 023 80 604183, Direct fax: 023 80 604288, Email: pippa.donne@rya.org.uk) at the RYA who runs the scheme. She will have the definitive answer.

Regards

Paul

As I understand it the plotter software is in the exam pack to be given out by the instructor when they feel the time is right.
I think the requirement is 2hrs for dayskipper and 3 hrs for YM on the software.
From memory the date of the packs is printed on the bottom of the pages 0304 for last years and 0405 for this years.
Hope this helps
