Noble House, searider 4.7 project

After a few years of searching I found a 4.7 searider with tubes in fantastic condition and a seller willing to sell without the outboard, which brought it into budget. A long 12 hour day down to wales and back and she was home. Great looking rib, the first time I'd seen a 4.7 and I was impressed with how much bigger a rib it was than an sr4.
My plan is to fit her out in a similar layout to my sr4 but with 2 single jockey seats and a slightly bigger console that incorporated the chartplotter instead of having it bolted on top.

Nice, look forward to seeing more. Not nearly enough SR chat on Ribnet these days.

Removed the original console and the a frame which was a poor fit. Unfortunately a battery box had been screwed into the deck , poorly sealed and there was some damp ply. I was considering if I'd have to remove a large section of deck or not . I was too busy with work to do anything on the rib and after a month the moisture content was reading 10%, so I think I've got away with just replacing small sections round where the screw holes were and fibreglassing it back up. The last pic is a crude mock up of the console and seating

I was thinking of polishing the hull to restore it but despite the tubes being in great nick, the hull was a bit of a mess, many many chips, dings and worn through to the glass along some parts of the keel. Decided I would have a shot respraying it in light weatherwork grey and redoing the deck gel coat in the same colour. My least favourite job is using the flap wheel on the deck!

I didn't think to make a thread until now but the rib is almost ready enough to be launched, few little things to finish

I didn't enjoy the prep but spraying the hull was fun, maybe a bigger tip on the gun would've given a better finish, but after half a day of wet sanding and polishing it was acceptable. A small orbital air sander saved a lot of time for doing between the chines.

Bought 2 jockey seats from ebay and I'm reusing the 2 backrests I had. Made a bigger version of the console I had on the sr4 from marine ply and 2 layers of biaxial glass, faired and painted then glassed to the deck. A bit of wiring to tidy up. I've mounted my tohatsu 50hp and will see how that goes for now, perhaps upgrade to a 60hp in the future if it's not adequate. Fortunately the control cables just fitted but have replaced the steering cable with one 2ft longer.
Found an original a frame on marketplace for £50, just needed cut down a little to fit under the lean to.

Yep I too always enjoy a good restoration or upgrades thread.

I do like them with orange hulls but your repaint seems fine for finish and the grey does modernise the look.

I made a bit of a hash job shaping the seat foam and stretching & stapling the fabric. I think over winter I'll have a go with the sewing machine and try to make a good job of the seat upholstery. I'd like to get a local fabricator to make two matching backrests too, MOD style and get the a frame re powder coated. For now though the Noble House is almost complete enough to get her on the water for the rest of the summer, looking forward to seeing how she compares to an sr4!

Looking good - the 4.7 is a lot more boat than a SR4 - I think you'll probably want more than a 50 though ideally.

I had one many moons ago...

Yours really was a great spec and condition Max.

What a great searider that is, the chap I bought this one from was selling as he'd replaced it with an ex mod one like that with the foam cladded tubes

Yep, but where did those years go?!

I’d still love another but would probably go for an SR4.

what would make you go for an sr4 over a 4.7? is a 4.7 still easy to launch by yourself

Been out a few times and what a great rib, feels a lot more than just 70cm bigger than the sr4. Got upto 29 knots with two onboard with dive gear, skips up on to the plane pretty quickly and it's nice maintaining a decent speed in a bit of chop.
I was surprised it sits a lot higher in the water than I imagined with the tubes completely out at rest.

Nice job.

The Searider 4.7m is rare beast. Zodiac MilPro make them now, but you’d need a King’s ransom to purchase. https://pdf.nauticexpo.com/pdf/zodia...347-98222.html

Pretty sure it would take 70hp maximum.

Thanks spartacus. I've been reading through some of the other threads on 4.7's, looks like the yamaha f70 would be the four stroke of choice if repowering!

Indeed, but £8,600 buys you a heck of lot of fuel! Yamaha F70 is probably best in class for mid range outboard, just 114kg. If you know you’re going to get the use out of it, then it would be the way to go. If you think the 4.7 is rare, then waiting for a used F70 will age you!

Nothing wrong with your Tohatsu, but if you load up, you’ll feel it.
