North Cornwall

I'm thinking of heading to Cornwall later in the year and looking to going out on the rib in the area Padstow-St Ives launching from Newquay harbour/beach. Apart from the wind strength can anyone advise what wind direction might be worse/better in this area and when I should forget it and head for the south coast instead

Geoff

Assuming it is not dead calm, the sea swell is normally fine for any 5m + Rib around there, there are only a couple of out of wind bays (usually SW) though so check weather obviously before hand. Sometimes the entrance to the Camel Estuary (Padstow) can be pretty rough at the Doom Bar although you can usually ride in between the waves if you need to.

Yep, definitetly. Fowey to Fal vs Padstein to S'nives, it's a 'no brainer'.

South Coast for Boating.

We spend our holidays near Padstow and have taken the 4m down there.

It's not really an easy place to use a RIB as mostly exposed to the west.

I reckon you'd have much more fun out of Falmouth. Plenty of places to visit which are mostly sheltered.

North Coast for surfing.

South coast for boating.
