Notice to Mariners - Portsmouth QHM

All,

Further to the new Portsmouth Harbour rules posted a few months back, the QHM has now setup a patrol to educate and inforce the "rules".

QHM Portsmouth website

Well spotted Andy. Not only a new harbour patrol but also a new website where you can sign up for my LNTM Mailing list so there will never again be the excuse "but I didn't know the rules". Do visit www.qhmportsmouth.com and sign up.

Oh dear! I've just been reading that the councils of Portsmouth and Southampton are to impose 'congestion charges' on vessels entering The Solent between 07.00 hours and 18.30 hours every day!

The leader of the council, Ben Palindrome, hopes to use the money raised to improve habour and safety facilities and to reduce boat journeys in The Solent' which frequently suffers from 'boat lock'.

He has stated that essential vessels, such as water taxis, SIBs and lifeboats will be exempt from the charges.

Other harbour authorities will be looking closeley at the scheme.

Keith (I told you so) Hart

Another example of politicians not knowing their stern from their elbow.

The councils don't have such powers it's for Harbour Authorities to regulate the water and as the two that control the "Solent" are Associated British Ports for Southampton Water and westward and the Queen's Harbour Master for east of Soton Water and neither fall under the City Councils ......

The Free Port rules mean that if you pay landing/berthing fees you have the freedom to use all the facilities.

It'll take a large gantry to get the spy cameras high enough between the Forts so that the Ark royal can still squeeze underneath.

Completley batty.
