Ocean Dynamics

Hi, I am thinking of buying an ocean dynamics 825 rib, I know very little about them and was wondering if anyone has had experience of them, particularly about sea keeping ability, ride comfort etc. I am looking at coding one and running as a passenger charter. Many thanks. Chris

Chris,
I don't have personal experience but know the boats by reputation. They were built in West Wales by Sean White (now sadly departed) in St Davids and had a reputation as extreme heavy weather boats. Sean ran them himself for many years as passenger charter boats in Ramsey Sound which has some seriously viscious seas. Latterly they were build under license by Mustang Marine in Pembroke Dock Welcome to Mustang Marine (Wales) Ltd | World class boat building and ship repair facility. I think they still list them under the Ribworker name.
There are a few still operating out of St Davids and venture jet definitely run one Venture Jet: Jet Boat Wildlife Trips to Ramsey Island, Grassholm, The Smalls and Film and Commercial Charter, Pembrokeshire, wales - they might be able to give you some info.
In summary they were designed and successfully operated as heavy weather passenger charter boats so should be right up your street.

Hi Jon
Many thanks for your reply, sounds perfect, I have found one in the Netherlands which is in my price range but I think it's going to be expensive to get it back. I have also found a tornado 8.5 a little closer to home but I really like the look of the ocean dynamics. Will give it some thought, thank you again for the info. Regards Chris

I could be talking complete bollix here, so take it with a large pinch, but I'm sure I read that Tornado "outsourced" their production to the far east at one point & the quality suffered. I think you have to be careful which era the boat is from. But I could be wrong. Also Tornado could be PVC tubes, so again, be careful.

Hi dave
Yes you are correct about tornados but this one is an older version built in uk I believe. I have not viewed it yet so will be quite carefull, I am still favouring the ocean dynamics but it's not in the uk so getting its a hassle
Thanks again Chris

Nah! Hull to Rotterdam ferry, overnight crossing, have a few beers on the way out, cabin, good nights sleep, land next morning, view the boat, do the deal, next ferry back. Depending on where in the Netherlands the boat is (It's not a big place) you could wrap it all up in a weekend. Pick your ferry crossing & get a deal. Either tow the boat back if it's on a (decent) trailer, or take a flat bed out & put the whole lot on the back.....He who dares Rodney, he who dares

Hi Chris, I could be wrong but think I saw the blue 8m OD with the single Suzuki OB up for sale somewhere again recently..... It's the boat they built for Bear Grylls originally..... Of course if may be the same boat you are looking at in the NL?? Can't recall where it was based... Prob worth a search.... I would but am floating about on survey at moment.....

I've just seen this boat advertised on Findafishingboat website, I have 2 questions for anybody?
1. Would the boat have been designed to have an inboard engine originally?
2. What do you think the ball-park price would be?

They did two options on power I think inboard diesel jet and outboard, the outboard boat was a little lighter I think. So it could be original as intended.

Mustang Marine built an 11m Ocean Dynamics boat for Bear Grylls' Artic Challenge Artic 2003 Challenge - Ribworker D - Class | Mustang Marine Ltd
so this definitely isn't it.
they might have built others for him but I don't have details.
They do an D825 which is inboard jet drive and a C825 which is typically supplied with twin Suzi 140's.
More info on their website under "Ribworker".
If it's a Mustang boat, I'm sure they will have some info on it. They've recently gone into receivership but the same guys are still there and they look like keeping going.
