Odd Killer Whale Behaviour
This must be a worry !!
I'm not clever enough to upload the actual article but there's a bit of video of one attacking a yacht rudder.

Not sure where you were reading it but heres a similar article from the Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/environm...g%20encounters.
I'm wondering if any of them have tried turning their sounders off... either than or could they be trained by enemy forces to attack? Sounds far fetched - but its 2020!

Seems unusual behaviour. That said, killer whales or orca pods are unique, normally 30 or so whales that will inhabit an area and of course migrate huge distances, from what I know led by older females. I read Survive the Savage Sea by Douglas Robertson years ago. If you haven't read it, it's essential reading. Their yacht was holed by whales in the doldrums. Basically get the coffee on and a plate of corned beef sandwiches. By page 48 it's like Swallows and Amazons with the ocassional enima thrown in for good measure.

I wonder if killer whales, a bit like humans, are prone to behaving badly occasionally. They are basically vandalising stuff.

We live in their world remember, not the other way round. They were here waaaay before the human race evolved. There’s an interesting docu worth watching on Netflix called blackfish about these stunning intelligent creatures.

Interesting point about the Sounders Poly makes ....its thought by many that strong military Sonar can be responsible for mass beachings of other species....after damaging their own very sensitive adaptations.
The ultra intelligent Orca (Giant Dolphin) is more than capable of communication with Man...and as there has never been a report of a Human EVER being attacked by a Killer Whale (in the wild!) it's very probably not aggression ...and may very well be their attempt to indicate some sort of discomfort.
Incidentally I read recently that the Orca has the second largest range of any Mammal on the Planet (another testament to thier intelligence and adaptability) second to Man that is ...with all our technological advantages

Possibly part of the reason for this is that killer whales don't inhabit the same parts of the world that significant numbers of people swim in.
I remember there was a documentary, possibly Blue Planet, that did a feature on Killer Whales. They showed them getting a seal of a small ice floe by making waves until it slid off.
Interestingly at the end of the documentary there was a bit about filming it and they showed the whales doing exactly the same manoeuver on the little boat that the camera men were in. I wonder what would have happened had they upended the boat.

"and you are point?"
Are you able to explain?
I wasn't trying to make a point, it was just to add a comment to a friendly thread. Are you trying to take it in the direction of many of the threads that you are involved in?

Our favourite themes are dear to us. I always cry a little when Free Willy finally gets his blue passport...
