Off to Poole tomorrow, where to get fuel?
I am popping over the Channel tomorrow (Tuesday the 15th) to run a few errands.
Where is the best place to get petrol from in winter?

Salterns also sell both fuels, though no where in Poole is cheap.
David (Avocet) could probably direct you to the best location.

Cheers Steve, I had thought Salterns High Class Purveyor of Marine Services to The Gentle Folk Of Dorset, by App. might be the best bet.
Maybe I will just carry lots of duty free with me for the return trip.

There's a Texaco about 6 mins walk from Salterns. But if you can I'd bring some home brew with you!

I bet the Texaco charges more than 65p
Home brew sounds better by the minute.

Having seen the UK Border Agency rib at the harbour entrance as we were leaving on the Jolly to the Folly, I'm not so sure that's funny!
I'm sure Malthouse will be flying his Q flag and 'phoning the customs line to declare everything that he should like a good boy.

We do not have a petrol pump,
We do not have a marina,
What we do have it two very leisure-boating biased jurisdictions 20 and 30 miles away.

Thanks muchley.
It was a good run, we were taking a Rigid Raider (5m!) across so outbound was quite slow. The return was also slowed by a cheeky little southerly that whipped up.
Still...
First winter channel crossing - check
First return trip in a day - check

Glad it all went well for you. It's about time I did my first Channel Crossing. Tims trip next year seems like the Ideal oppotunity. I nearly went this year but I knew work commitments would get in the way....Pleasure first next year

I think most people enjoyed it, so we should probably press Tim for a date.
If it is going to tie in to the Cannonball Challenge then the current thinking is the last weekend of May (BH).
Back on the subject of yesterday's crossing... I learned a couple of things for next time (not that I am in a hurry to there and back in one winter's day!), most importantly to stop just before crossing the shipping lanes to get bearings and work out who is doing what speed - it got quite disorientating for my poor fatigued brain.

Glad you got back safely: I was thinking of you with the rain and cold at this end.
I've twice done Poole - Alderney - Poole in a day, but not in winter and I suspect that the conditions when I did it were more pleasant than yesterday: accompanying dolphins, sun-tan cream and a coffee break and a swim mid-Channel were more the order of the day for me.
Out of interest, where did you get your petrol eventually?

Also glad you got back in one piece. Not the most pleasant day for it. How was the viz?
Like Avo, keen to know where you got your juice!?
