There are a few ways to look at it this -

1) If you can get the local council to consider it as a "domestic waste" they are legally bound to dispose of it for you as bulky household waste. However they are allowed to charge your for the collection of it. The waste hull would need to be "produced" at your house for this to work.

2) The other one to pursue take to a waste transfer station or landfill site yourself. DO NOT JUST TURN UP - ring them and negotiate price before hand. (Current landfill prices are about £40/tonne with a contract and a skip to a transfer station is gonna be £150ish). However you may not be able to take it to a landfill as all waste must be pre-treated "if it technically feasible" leaving you just a waste transfer station option.

Burning it is not a good idea.

It's completely worthless and wont float as I have removed the jetdrive and about 3 foot square of surrounding hull and transom with a grinder. I have also removed all fittings.
You could try these guys, they may take it for free but you would have to take it to them.
It won't matter to them if it does not float, in fact they want it to sink!

Good luck

Murray,

What caused it? I heard about the fire about a week ago, along with the story came the fact that it was an electric fire left aboard. I have sent this to someone who thinks leaving a dehumidafier running all the time is a good thing.

bad luck, hope the insurance don't play silly buggers.

The insurance is agreed..as the fire was a couple of months ago,. although personally, my view is that the condition of the boat will never be compensated fully, as she was in immaculate condition, and you would not find another example like it. She was dads pride & Joy.

Nothing was connected at the time, no gas or power, and all isolators off, so nothing left 'powered up'. The marine surveyor suspects a battery in the forward cabin which may have powered the bow thruster and windlass, or a harness connected to it, I have yet to see the actual report, but its been a terrible loss and the total devastation is unbelievable .. still it could have happened at sea, so there is that to be thankful for, although she was fitted with smoke alarms, at least no one was hurt
