Only boat on the lake with radar...

Having fun with the 7m. Turns out it's a great wakeboard boat. Had 11 people onboard for wakeboarding today, boat ran great

EFI engine runs much better at altitude.

Where's that then ? My daughter is up in Indiana for the summer ( north Webster ) and says pontoon boats are the norm on the lake there.

This pontoon boat looks like it could make lake boating a lot of fun:

Probably Lake Tahoe?

1897 meters elevation, so most boats run like crap up there.

Nah, when people say "pontoon", they mean a pontoon boat with welded aluminum tubes with some marine plywood decking on top...basically, floating docks with engines on the back. I hate'em with a passion!

Although people around here tend to call all inflatables "RIBs" (rigid or not), and they'll call the tubes "sponsons" or the "balloons".

Jason, swim relay this year???? (I don't even know when it is)

I'd bet you're actually one of 3 boats on the lake with radar (the US Coast Guard says they have 2) - http://www.uscg.mil/d11/staLakeTahoe/

Correct.

I believe Jason said his last boat (~18 ft. with a Honda) ran horribly there.

Correct on all fronts. Trans-Tahoe Race Saturday. Been launching at the ramp next to CG but haven't seen any of theirs on the lake.

My son keeps pointing out that for a given RPM we are going slower than at sea level but the engine runs perfectly. Fortunately I have HP to spare

Sort of. Even my buddy who owns a 15.5' Zodiac calls his boat a pontoon boat (he also smokes enough dope to kill a herd of cows, though, so his normalcy is questionable.)

A pontoon boat, properly, is sort of like a raft made of 55 gallon drums: It's usually 2 welded aluminum flotation chambers (kind of banana shaped) under each gunwale, onto which a flat deck (or in some cases, 2 tiers of decks) is/are fixed. They are usually outboard powered, but occasionally will have inboard engines.

They're known for being slow, lake-cruising type vessels, but I've seen some that will do better than 40 knots, and had an acquaintance who ran one in Monterey Bay for diving (4 to 6 foot swell, couple of feet of chop.)
