I was told by the owner that it was set to knots and as far as I was aware this could not be changed. I have just looked at the manual however and it appears you can swap between MPH,KMH and knots. It would make more sense if that 50 number is in mph rather than knots, as that gives 43 knots which makes sense with what DHD's number are. Bearing in mind three up. I did glance at the kph readout on the GPS a couple of times and I definitely saw 80 flick up a couple of times and that is also 43 knots.
Shame!

Let's hope the owner finds it next time out. Kitting out on a budget is always hard as you have to sacrifice things you later wish you hadn't but such is life. At the end of the day if the owner is happy that's all that counts.
The max rpm on an opti 150 is 5,750

Hmm. Well with you being on 21" a 19" should be about right. I will try and get him a 17" to borrow from somewhere, just to see if it brings the revs up. It really doesn't sound right during the transition phase, lugging away. Perhaps it's just the shoddy opti technology

Speed should be in mph.
Theoritical speed (knots) = rpm x propeller pitch x 60 x 0.0254 / gear ratio / 1852 meaning that your theoritical speed is 43.47 knots or 80.5 kmh or 50 mph.

No lugging with mine - revs cleanly from idle but won't go past 5200ish rpm.

I'll put money on it that it wasn't doing 50 knots with a 19" prop at 5200 rpm.*

So a 150 on a 6.2 is the sweet spot
We know the 7 with a 250 ho can't blow a 6.5 with a 200 opti complete with a fat man Hanging on the wheel

Max speed I had with my 6.2 was 42kn. She's a bit of a heavyweight now I've added all the bells and whistles like seats and iron work and the top speed these days is more like 36/38kn WOT

"Back in the day" 6m vipermax / 150 opti 45 knts. Cracking boat, many many fond memories and member of a very elite club to which my volvo v70r is the only other member that springs to mind.
That's the "must have another one some day" club.

I had two requirements, one was to leave instrument space (which the high position doesn't) and the other was to be able to sit down behind the wheel, which as somebody who has a few pies hidden in my Fladen suit, would not have been very comfortable with the lower position
Mine is just right for me, it's about half way between the two "standard" positions.
