Osprey seats
The jockey seat cushion on the helm seat of my Vipermax (single jockey console as shown in the picture) is now starting to split through wear and tear.
Does anybody know if the consoles and seats used by the current Osprey dealers would be compatible with those supplied by Mannings in 2010? I wondered if I can get a new base cushion easily, or if they use a completely different supplier now. The cushions look visually different on their website, but what matters is how they sit on the console.

Definitely don't use the existing base. You can easily get a new cushion made but I would advise getting a new base too as yours will be made of plywood (and therefore be already all furry...) Whereas the new ones are made of a man made plastic so dont rot. The cushion for that seat is not the same size as the jockey seats so a new one will fit just the same.
Your best bet would be to contact Quayside and Leisure (the successor company to the one that made your upholstery) and get them to make something up for you

Hi Stephen,
The seat bases and backs are all now made using plastic bases, otherwise the design is the same so they will fit your console.
Drop me a PM and I will see what I can do to help as I know you have location issues !!

Marine ply doesn't go 'furry'. The bloke is 1000s of miles away, should he just pop over to the upholsteres for a chat and a coffee?!

Mine did. All 3 went VERY furry - green stinky whiskers growing on it!
Thanks all - Chris I will PM you. Probably get a whole replacement cushion and keep the old one as a spare I think.

Clearly you don't yet yours in the water enough Mollers! It was a known Osprey fault for a number of years that the seats became all furry. Having seen a number of the new cushions on various boats I can assure you that the new fomex?? boards are much better. And the material too IMO

My bases are genuine MP and are 'as new'. It sounds as if there's some base abuse going on here. ;-). Or in Boggy's case, bass abuse 'coz he's bored of sheep. :-D

Ok, I heard you the first time! Partly true, and also, your bases were made of shit material. I could leave mine on a swinging mooring for a year and I very much doubt if my bases would rot.

Our marine ply bases rotted after about 5 seasons on swing mooring and non closed cell foam.
Just had new "modern" man made ones with closed cell foam.

Closed cell foam? I thought the idea was open cell foam so that water could pass straight through rather than soaking into the cells of the foam?

I always thought that the idea of closed cell foam was that it does not soak up water.

That is the other 'issue' with my seats from day 1 is that if the boat is out in the weather for a while, when you sit on them you are sitting on a giant sponge and the water scooshes out = wet ar$e if launching in jeans! As it now lives under cover that is not an issue but I still need to take the seat cushions off to let it air out in the garage otherwise the seat pods go mouldy inside.
A proper seat cushion with a rigid base made out of some sort of plastic material and waterproof closed-cell foam for the cushion would be the answer.
I have no idea whether the ply on mine is marine ply or not - but it was certainly untreated on the visible side. It looked like the stuff I'm building a house with at the moment (what is sold as 'exterior ply') but the seats were one of several finishing touches which weren't really up to the quality of the underlying hull. Good to see it has moved forwards.
Another question while we're talking about progress: on the jockey console, water on the console always runs down the front of the cushion and into the under-seat void as there is no form of sealing where the cushion sits on the console. I tried adding a strip of sticky backed door seal along the front for the seat cushion to seal onto, but it comes off too easily. Does the current model of this seat have a seal or different arrangement for the cushion fixing to keep the water from getting in? It's not a lot, but again in heavy rain or when washing it down you get some water ingress.

I agree with Kerny. Motorbikes use closed cell foam too I believe.

The trouble with closed cell foam is that it doesn't stay closed with use. It breaks down and allows water in, but doesn't allow it out.
