Our petrol is too cheap!!!!

Proof the Labour party are insane!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3554030.stm

"A committee of MPs is expected to say petrol should be made more expensive to curb the emissions from vehicles that have been linked to global warming.
The Environmental Audit Committee is expected to call for ministers to increase fuel duty, to put a brake on rising emissions from transport.
It will argue that despite the current high oil price, petrol is still relatively cheap in real terms"

Totally insane! Britain already has prob the dearest petrol in the world!!!

They also go on to boast about recycling and the environment - has anyone noticed how much fly tipping is going on? Ever thought why? Because the greens demands make dumping of rubbish impossible - in Swansea if you want a skip it now has to ge to Merthyr to be dumped - 30 miles each way because Swansea council refuse to handle them - this means a skip will now cost £200!!!

Any wonder people are dumping stuff everywhere? Of course all these new rules MUST be good for the environment!

I reckon that taxing private transport is not the answer, it just squeezes people that need to use it. At the moment you need to use it because public transport is so expensive and awkward. If anything I would say that back in the days of BR and council run bus services they were easier to figure out and were a lot more frequent (certain services excepted)
I am all for making public transport more affordable and easier to use so that it becomes better to use it than a car.
At the moment I have a choice for a simple journey to Glasgow from Oban, I take the train which only runs three times a day, is about £15-20 per person return, has no guarantee of a seat because the train size has been cut in recent years and takes over three hours. OR I drive anytime I want, pay about £15 total in fuel return, get a good seat and take just over two hours to drive.
Even with the cost of fuel doubling the other advantages would still make me drive as there are usually two of us going down.
The cost, frequency, seat numbers etc would need to be changed on a train before I would even consider travelling on them, and this is from someone who actually would prefer to travel down without driving so I can relax and read a book!

Sounds to me like a trick to try and cover up /fill the 37billion hole Brown has created.

Firstly provide good public transport then tax us more to stop us.

If you voted Labour last time, give yourself a pat on the back!
